2009 Toyota AYGO Platinum 1.0

Summary:

Great car, let down by poor finish

Faults:

Having bought this car on its reputation for build quality, I was very surprised to find the drivers side rear carpet & carpet area under the drivers seat soaking wet. On removal of the rear mat, it was placed over a bucket, in which gathered over 1/2 inch of water. I got in contact with the dealer & was told this was a common problem, as the rubber seals around the drivers door & rear passenger door were liable to leak. Not something I wanted to hear. I am now booking it in for new seals & new carpets.

General Comments:

Overall the car is great apart from a hesitation when moving off from a standstill.

The Aygo is not available in our local Toyota dealer, but funnily enough, they started selling the BYD F0 this year, which I understand is a copy of this car. I would like to know if anyone in here has had the Chinese version and comment on it, since I'm planning on getting a small, economic city car, but I like it to be reliable.

2006 Toyota AYGO + 1.0

Summary:

The Aygo is a no-nonsense car, perfect for the times we live in

Faults:

Apart from one morning when it hesitated to start, the car has been faultless. It went into the supplying dealer for this to be checked and no fault could be found.

Tyre wear is significant. At 12000 miles the front tyres were wearing fast and it is doubtful they would have lasted much longer. From research this is not an uncommon issue with the Aygo.

General Comments:

My partner wanted to replace her Renault Megane with a smaller, more reliable car, and was very interested in an Aygo and a Yaris. After a test drive of both she was drawn to the more basic Aygo due to its unpretentious, no-nonsense, fun appeal, and a superb deal was done on a three door Aygo+ in carbon quartz.

In the 22 months she owned it, it proved to be an excellent choice and was incredibly fuel efficient, achieving 50+ mpg as a matter of course, whether it was driven briskly or sedately.

Road tax at £35 made renewal time, a completely insignificant financial event.

The boot, whilst not very large, was acceptable and would easily accommodate shopping bags.

On one occasion we took the Aygo on a 400 mile round trip from the Midlands to the South Coast, and we were hugely impressed at how well it kept up with traffic, was comfortable, swallowed up bags of presents and overnight bags with ease, and was thoroughly entertaining to drive.

At 6'4" tall it accommodates me with ease, and the front leg room is excellent. I have been in far bigger, luxurious cars, that are less roomy for front seat occupants.

Whilst this is a budget car, we would mention that the stereo is a little tinny sounding, and we do feel that Toyota should offer a slightly higher spec model within the range with one or two extra creature comforts for customers that want the small dimensions and cheap running costs, but would like little touches such as external temperature gauges, for example.

Overall the Aygo is a superb car, and was replaced with a five door Aygo Blue.

2007 Toyota AYGO 1.0

Summary:

Probably the worst small car you can buy

Faults:

It got manufactured.

General Comments:

Avoid avoid avoid, trust me, it has the space of the SMART car, too freakin small, pick up speed is slow, scary if you pass the 70 km/h as wind will shake the car, and oh, if you have any luggage just rope them to the roof cause you ain't gonna get them through the back window!!

This is not the Toyota I know; the car is less than 1 year old and already for sale. I will never buy a small car like this.

Did the car get smaller between the moment when you ordered it and its delivery? Does the engine have less power than when you tried the car?

What you mean is that you don't like the car - that doesn't make it crap.

A bit like buying a large car, you get it for a reason. I have a Yaris, but then I only ever drive it, and we have three children.

Like the other comment, I do not see your point also?

This website is a very useful tool in researching a vehicle you may be considering, or reporting for others your experiences of one you own or know. Your review seems to be unfairly critical of the Aygo for being a small city car with a small engine!?

I drove my sisters Aygo (3 cylinder version) and have to say it was a fantastic little car. Sounded like a V6 with its 3 cylinders, and was nippy around town for a car with such a small engine. I agree with other comments above - why criticize the size of a good small car or its lack of power? - buy a bigger one, with a bigger engine!!!

The whole point of the Aygo is to be a small, cheap, economical car. If you want a car with lots of room and a fast pickup speed, maybe you should have just bought a Corolla. You have clearly missed the point of the Aygo, it's a very unfair review.
