1985 Toyota Corolla GT 1.6i 16v
Faults:
Required a new battery.
General Comments:
The Toyota Corolla GT is one of the very first Japanese high performance hot hatches.
The car is equipped with a solid 4A-GE 1600cc 16v twin-cam TVIS engine, which produces an impressive 120hp.
The performance is very good for an old motor. The engine revs very well when the TVIS kicks in @ 5000rpm. The result is 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 121mph.
The car comes track ready with strut braces, specially tuned suspension and 4 wheel brake discs. It is heavy for a small car; 980kg compared to my 1991 Civic 1.6i-16 915kg that had E/S and E/W.
The motor has a real aggressive appearance, and high tunability and modifying potential.
The interior is very basic, dull and boring. There are no luxuries like P/S and E/W. Can't complain much; it is a 25 year old car.
It is slightly similar, but not better than my Honda Civic 1.6i-16 that I had for over 3 years.
One of the very best cars of 1980's era. A very special car, becoming very rare today. This is the third greatest high performance Corolla, behind the AE86 and GTi-16. Corolla's have lost their way after the GTi-16, and no other Corolla will ever come close to these three.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
