1972 Triumph Stag Mk 1 Manual 3.0 V8

Summary:

A superb and underrated grand tourer

Faults:

New radiator, track rod end, fan hub plus service items.

General Comments:

The car is a pleasure to drive, it handles extremely well for a 30 year old car and the performance is good for its age. The exhaust note just can't be beat. It's worth getting wet with the hood down just hear the exhaust!!!

1972 Triumph Stag 3.0 V8

Summary:

A great V8 monster

Faults:

Nothing! The car is great! Never overheats like some people say the it does.

General Comments:

Very fast and very comfortable, the seats are very good and the dash is tasteful. It seats 4 full grown men in comfort. This is great practical sports car!

The car handles really well, it has a blood curdling V8 note from the back.

I love to leave all the other cars standing on the motorway.

The car will get a lot of action and you will get into road races with other cars, my Stag has beaten a 911!

Being fortunate enough to own an '73 manual Triumph Stag and also a Porsche 911, I think the 911 owner must have been winding you up.

Both cars are great cars, but are totally different driving experiences. There is no way that a Stag will out run a 911 - The Stag takes twice as long to get to 60mph (10 seconds)

A stag that beats a 911 eh... Hmmmmm.Personally I love Stags & 911`s.but as far as performance goes between the two, I can only suggest that the Porsche driver must have been in a generous mood to let you win. In the real world Triumph Stag + Porsche 911 equals no competition...sorry.

The Stag beating a 911 in a race? Perhaps this is possible... Maybe the 911 driver was pushing his car... it`d still be a close call even then.

To get four adults comfortably in the stag must mean you're all under five foot tall.

C'mon guys maybe the 911 was being towed by another Stag?!But seriously the Stag engine is quite tunable up past 250 bhp, so it is possible.

...I'm interested and surprised to see two reviewers rate the STAG on performance... TECH specs from STAG web pages will tell...the STAG is not a great performer... sounds good looks good... but 100 mile per hour leaves it gasping. (auto)

I love the stag... sitting in it... it gives a feeling made for me.. BUT without serious performance mods... it simply cannot keep up with other performance cars... not to worry it was designed as a highway cruiser... YES it certainly sounds like other drivers should tremble at the lights.

What power does the 3.0 make?

How can you tune a stag to 250bhp? Does it affect the reliability?

I own a triumph stag that will beat a 911 of a similar era. It does produce 250bhp.

It uses a Ford V6 with as turbo techniques conversion.
