2005 Vauxhall Astra Club 1.7CDTI
Summary:
Roomy, well made, well equipped
Faults:
Had the car about three weeks. After a couple of days, I noticed a rattle from the tailgate which went away when I locked the car from the inside. Has gone away by its self now though.
General Comments:
The new astra is beautifully put together. The seats are comfy, the ride is superb, and the diesel is near silent above 2-2500 revs.
There is also a generous amount of kit: A/C, Alloys, Driver Information Centre, CD, and mine (although I didn't ask for it) has climate control - don't tell Vauxhall!! The heating is so good that I don't miss the heated seats of the Rover.
The seats are very comfy on long distances, dispite what I have read on other reviews. After 24hrs with the car I had done 200 miles in it, and I didn't feel as stiff as a corpse!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

My wife has had an Astra Sports Hatch for 4 months now. I share your view that this is an excellent effort by Vauxhall. It has surprising room inside given its coupe profile and despite being a modest 1.6 SXi model goes well and is nicely equipped.
Best of all is that after 4 months and 3000 miles not a single thing has gone wrong with it. I don't think we have ever owned a car we could say that about!
The press may think a Focus handles a bit better, but as an all round package the Astra beats it hands down.
