1990 Vauxhall Calibra Coupe 2.0i

Summary:

Most stunning car on the road

Faults:

New gator offside front.

General Comments:

Wanted a 16v, couldn't resist this 8v at £2000. Absolutely stunning in silver with TSW alloys. Immaculate on an H-plate. A bargain.

What a stunning car the Calibra is. Just added a Pico twin back-box, not too much growl, but really looks the biz. Had a Cavalier SRi before, loved that car too, probably on a par for performance. Will keep this a while, then it will be a turbo or V6, must have another.

1990 Vauxhall Calibra 8v 2.0i

Summary:

A stunning looking reliable motor

Faults:

Idle control valve went at 91,000.

General Comments:

Totally reliable and fantastic car, cheap to pick up and fantastic amount of car for the money. Buy a cheap one now, I paid £2300 for one of the first on a G plate and it's 100% reliable.

Without any squeaks and rattles the interior is as good as the day it was made, well worth the money. I've done hardly anything other that a damn good service every 5000 miles. You can't go wrong.

1990 Vauxhall Calibra 16v 2.0 16v DOHC petrol

Summary:

A fantastic sports car for the money

Faults:

Carbon build up on the intake manifold.

Passenger door central locking failed.

General Comments:

When I bought the car it had a fully rebuilt engine, gearbox and clutch, the body work was perfect and performance was spot on. I have since spent thousands modifying it and the engine has responded well to all its modifications.

I won't be selling it for a long time.

1990 Vauxhall Calibra 2.0 8V

Summary:

Don't buy one

Faults:

ABS.

Front suspension.

Rust.

Steering rack.

Alarm (repeatedly).

Assorted electrics (I had a Lancia with better electrics!)

General Comments:

Look good, but don't be deceived, they really are hopeless.

I also tried the turbo one for a while, it was faster but just as bad.

1990 Vauxhall Calibra 16V 2.0 16V petrol

Faults:

CV joints.

Bearings.

Sticky tappets for many months.

Magnetec oil & Slick 50 resolved this.

New lights ( till not very good good on rainy dark nights, design flaw??)

General Comments:

My car was lowered by 40mm, quiet de-restricted exhaust, Superchipped, full black leather.

Lovely car. Comfortable in the front and OK in the back. Good visibility.

Front Lights are always poor though.

Handled well with good power delivery, but the lowering and chipping made a vast amount of difference and is well worth the £300 or so to do.

Better car than Supra 3.0 Turbo, Sierra Cosworth 3dr, Rover 620 Ti and others I have owned. Not as quick but a safe and well balanced power range and drive.

I will be getting another one very soon.

1990 Vauxhall Calibra 16v 2.0 petrol

Faults:

Steering rack had to replaced at 85,000 costing £400. Apart from that it has been very reliable.

General Comments:

Being one of the few pre Ecotec (Cosworth designed) engined Calibras, it was quite quick and could easily leave newer 16V Calibras behind. The downside was that it felt a little unstable at high speeds especially through corners.
