Some people and magazine reviews put the Calibra Turbo down in terms of performance and how it handles, but as an owner myself, I don't agree, because a lot of these opinions seem to be based on short term trials.
The CalibraTurbo is a car that takes time to properly be appreciated, and once you get to that point, you find out that it is quite an amazing car.
My car is in more or less standard form, and yet it's quite capable of pulling up to 150mph with five people in the car, and when it comes to how it handles, I have never had a problem with chucking it around as hard as I want when it is in 4x4 (my transfer box seals went a short while ago). Even in front wheel drive, you can chuck it as hard as you want, as long as you know how the car is going to react.
This all goes to the reason of why it takes time to really realize the full potential of this car. There is so much more that can be said, but it is best explained by taking on the experience yourself. The down side is that they are not always that reliable, and some parts can be expensive. For instance I had a (rough) quote from Vauxhall to fix my 4x4 system, and that amount of money would have been enough to go out and buy a cheap Calibra Turbo, and the same goes for the six speed gear box, which is even more expensive. That's why I find that pacific high performance after market tuning companies can make a great deal of a difference towards how your bank balance is affected.
Just remember not to judge a book by its cover with this car. It's worth the wait, especially if you have the money to make it go faster!
