1988 Vauxhall Carlton CD Estate 2.0 petrol
Summary:
Still one of my favorite cars in 40 years of driving
Faults:
Suspension.
Exhaust.
Fuel tank leaked and had to be replaced.
Cruise control stopped working.
The car was serviced on time and didn't give any major problems. Rust starting around the arches and usual places by the time I was done with it.
General Comments:
Carlton 2.0 CD Estate - spacious, comfortable, nice to drive and well equipped for its time.
Silver with 5 spoke alloys, looked the part for an 80's car.
The car drove very well. You felt its weight in corners but it was not a race car - I liked to just cruise in it, and it did that very well whilst averaging more than 30 mpg, great for its time.
Very very comfortable, CD model had all electrics and nice seats.
In the late 1990's I traded it for a nearly new Vauxhall Omega at the time, which was a decent car, but not as good as the Carlton was. Definitely a car I always miss like no other.
Nostalgia aside, I suppose it was nothing special, that is for sure, but it is a very rare car nowadays and I miss when cars were this simple.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Mate you should try to get a late 1993 or 1994 model 2 litre or even better 2.6i with all the toys. An '88 Carlton with a 1.8 isn't exactly the best ones they made... even so, you shouldn't have had so many problems, the Carlton was a fantastically reliable car. Mind you, they're getting very old now and even harder to find.
