2016 Vauxhall Insignia SRi Nav 2.0 CDTi

Summary:

Very nice!

Faults:

Clutch, turbo boost solenoid, and the oil seal replaced.

General Comments:

2016 Insignia, black metallic. Lovely looking car.

SRi is the trim to have, excellent 18 inch alloys and lowered sport suspension. Handles very nicely despite what you might have heard.

2.0 CDTi is the most common engine. Change the oil on time and there is rarely trouble, but do be aware there is a famous oil seal issue that needs replaced in the lower part of engine; do make sure this is done for longevity, or it will fail and seize the engine. My mechanic did mine along with a new cam-belt for a very reasonable price. Worth it to save the engine.

It is powerful and always does over 50 mpg. Very nice to drive.

It's the ideal all round car to be honest, so long as you look out for its quirks. Avoid tatty high mileage examples which have been abused. A looked after Insignia is a fantastic car.

2016 Vauxhall Insignia Design Nav 1.4T petrol

Summary:

Smooth and good looking

Faults:

Tiny oil leak (not serious).

Rear brakes.

Exhaust.

A bit heavy on tyres.

General Comments:

Good looking, cheap to buy, nice to drive, there is a lot to like about the Insignia.

Design Nav model also has plenty of toys, seats are very comfortable. All materials have a quality feel to them. Quality radio system too.

Slick gearshift, nice handling.

Bit of a blind spot when reversing, but that is due to its sleek shape. You get used to it. Parking sensors are a must on this car, most have them, but not all.

1.4 turbo petrol engine is a decent unit, a bit buzzy at higher revs, and not all that fast, but adequate enough for this heavy car. Real world miles per gallon? I'm getting 35 - 40 mpg, with a lot of local drives. To get 40 mpg + consistently, you'd need to try the diesels. But for petrol in this size of car I have found the running costs OK.

Parts and servicing are reasonable, though Vauxhall main dealers are a little short with you. I've had to seek out a trusted independent for service and repair.

Overall a fantastic car, recommended. A looked after one should prove reliable. Had my car two years and no major problems.

I had the same car and got 34 - 36 mpg on local runs. I did get a genuine 41 + mpg with a lot of motorway cruising from it.

Had a 1.8 petrol Insignia before that - a reliable enough engine, but barely did 34 mpg no matter how you drive. But also a reliable unit, just like the 1.4T petrol.

Local taxi drivers who run the CDTi diesels say they only get 45 mpg at best, but they have a lot of common expensive issues, so the petrol units are well worth looking at in this car, despite the less mpg.

2016 Vauxhall Insignia SRi Nav 1.8 VVT petrol

Summary:

A nice choice

Faults:

Sat nav unresponsive.

A/C weak.

Misfire, replaced coil pack = solved.

Plus all the expected wear and tear of age and miles (brakes, cam-belt, service parts, etc).

General Comments:

Last of the older shape Insignia's on a 2016 registration. Best looking in my opinion.

Very nice to look at, this car is very underrated style wise. Vauxhall never made a better looking car in my opinion. My car is bright red, a rare color it seems (most are silver/grey/white).

SRi is the spec to have. Sharp suspension setup, easily better handling than lesser trimmed cars. Very comfortable seats and sporty interior. Lots of electrics.

Slick 6 speed manual transmission. Love driving this car. The 1.8 VVT petrol manages around 36 mpg with mixed driving. Power is on the weaker side, but all you can expect from this engine in a heavy car. It is a simple reliable unit however; if you take care of it you can expect no expensive issues.

Overall a fine all round car, priced well below rivals on the used market, yet just as capable and still very modern looking and feeling.
