1995 Vauxhall Omega elite 3.0 V6

Summary:

Very cheap speed

Faults:

The clutch slave cylinder failed at 116000.

Oil leak from one of the rocker cover gaskets.

Interior is looking worn.

General Comments:

This is by far the fastest car I have ever owned. I have upset a few Mercedes drivers and BMW drivers and it only cost me £800.

The biggest let down is that the Clutch slave cylinder failed and when Vauxhall was asked for a quote they weren't even sure what a slave cylinder was.

It burns a bit of oil, but that is down to the rocker cover gasket, which I am told is a common fault on all v6 Omega's, when it next needs a service I shall probably get it fixed.

My only other gripe is that as it is an ex-police car it has no luxury at all not even electric windows.

The speed and handling more than make up for any problems and I am sure I will keep this car for a long time yet.

1995 Vauxhall Omega CDX 2.5 V6

Summary:

Luxurious performance bargain

Faults:

Trouble with the handbrake shoes on the rear, they keep sticking and cause squeaking.

The transmission often fails. I could be driving along when suddenly the auto drive cuts out and"automatic transmission" comes up on the control panel. however if I pull over and turn the car off and restart it will cure the problem until a day or weeks later. I would appreciate it if anyone could diagnose the problem by contacting me on jsamdingle@aol.com. thanks.

Some fuses blow e. g power steering, air-con etc.

The front suspension stabilizer bars deteriorate quickly.

The dash lights won't come on in the dark when the car is cold.

General Comments:

The car is quick in sports mode and will give most cars a run for their money.

The car is a lot better lowered 60mm and with 17" omega elite wheels.

1995 Vauxhall Omega CD 2.5 V6

Summary:

A fast, executive feeling car at low cost

Faults:

Brake light failed as soon as I bought the car. Easy to fix.

During it's first service (for me) dealer noticed leaking rocker cover gaskets. Replaced them, but then had to replace coil pack and lead banks (2). Think I was ripped off.

Engine management light stays on since service, scanned for cause which was "phase sensor voltage too high". Mechanics have no idea what that means and Vauxhall don't either. Still waiting for answer. Any idea's?

General Comments:

Drives like a dream. Quick to pull away and using "sports mode" and "kick down" it goes like a tornado.

Extremely comfortable seats and good overall visibility apart from reversing. Removed central rear headrest quite early on.

Lots of nice gadgets including heated wing mirrors and seats and an informative display.

Battery went flat due to leaving interior lights on. This resulted in having to climb in through boot to open bonnet to get at the battery. Not good! No battery voltage means you cannot open the doors even with the key. Thought it would be sensible to have the interior lights turn off automatically after 30 minutes or so.

Great interior, very plush compared to previous vehicles I have owned. You could almost live in this car it is so comfortable.

Fantastic on motorways. I travel 400 miles a week just to and from work using the M25 and I feel as relaxed when I get to work as I did when I set off. Amazing!

Fuel consumption not great. Average about 27mpg, but then considering the fact that this is a "big" car with a 2.5 litre engine I guess I cannot really complain.

Very impressed overall. Feels like I am driving a much more expensive car.

It is possible to apply voltage via the boot light in order to open the door, the boot live has a constant supply (right back to the battery) and works when it is earthed. Just make sure you don't use the earth wire to apply the volatge.
