1997 Vauxhall Tigra No designation 1.4
Summary:
An expensive mistake
Faults:
I was desperate for a black Vauxhall Tigra when I was able to buy my first car.
It has been serviced every year since, and ran fine for three years until its first MOT, which proved expensive.
Ever since something major has gone wrong with it every year.
There have been minor niggles like the seat covers wearing, the electric windows on go slow and making a terrible clicking sound unless fully down.
This year though, with 82,000 miles on the clock (is this a lot for a six year old car?) the left back wheel bearing and axle collapsed and had to be replaced. Very expensive.
And now cylinder four is apparently misfiring and they think the gasket head has gone as well as some exhaust valve. Looking at paying £1000 to repair all of this - the car can only be worth about £5000 at most now.
Plus, overall, servicing and MOT at Vauxhall garage is very expensive - I will not be buying Vauxhall again.
It's all a shame because the car looks so good and had proved fine for first few years.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Think your right about the head gasket - mines just gone and it's a 1.4. Low mileage, less than 40k - don't know if this aggravates the problem.
Although to be fair it's the first problem I've had with it - shame it has to be something so expensive.

Guess what? I have a Silver 1.4 1997 Model and the head gasket went a few weeks ago as well as the motor on the sunroof and the break compensator valve. All in all cost me over a thousand pound and only had the car six months. Shame it could be a nice car if it wasn't for the expense of paying out all the time. I noticed since the work has been done the engine management light has come on a couple of times again, probably another expense looming.

Why doesn't anybody mention if their Tigra is a 1.4 or 1.6??
I think the valve problems, head gasket problems tend to be more related to the 1.4 Tigra
Am I right or wrong?
