1999 Vauxhall Vectra SRi 2.5 V6

Summary:

Fast motor which surprises boy racers

Faults:

No faults so far (touching wood)

General Comments:

A very quick car, seems to have the power towards the top end, so if at lights and planning a quick take off, the engine will kick in at about 3000 revs. This isn't just in lower gears, the V6 tends to have its best power at around 4500 revs upwards.

The standard factory fit brakes are poor, I've just fitted some performance brakes and the difference is very noticeable. Mine is an ex hire car, hence the high miles, but it has full Vauxhall service history, which shows as it's running as if it was new. The only downside to the car is the seating position - if you site 5 centimetres from the steering wheel, you'll see the dashboard lights no problem, but take a reasonable position and you can say bye bye to the centre warning lights as the cowling hides them. Seat is at maximum height. In all, a good car, which can deal surprises to the boy racing contingent.

1999 Vauxhall Vectra CDX 2.5 V6

Summary:

A fine comfortable car

Faults:

Air Bag warning light came on the night I picked up the car, the dealer fixed this under warranty.

Exhaust blowing after two week of owning the car. Dealer fixed this even though the exhaust is not covered.

General Comments:

The car has plenty of power although there is a flat spot between 2000 - 3000 rpm I think this I the case on all the V6 Vectra's my friend has the same problem he has the 2.6 V6 CDX.

The Vectra is very comfortable full leather, heated seats, climate control; the list goes on and on. I especially like the on board computer which lets you know if anything is wrong with your car even when you need to fill your washer bottle up.

On the outside the car looks good I have the full Irmsher body kit and exhaust fitted this gives the car more road presence without going over the top.

If your looking for a sports car this is not for you the cornering is acceptable, but it won't handle like it's on rails. Also due to the weight of the car the 170bhp carries you to 60mph in about 8 seconds not quick enough for the boy racers out there.

1999 Vauxhall Vectra GSi 2.5 V6

Summary:

Keeps the kids entertained

Faults:

Faulty left front door speaker.

Front lights fog up.

Top line of LED clock display missing.

Creak from rear suspension.

Failed first MOT on a lower ball joint.

General Comments:

I bought this car knowing the performance abilities were good, it also handles really well. Its not break neck quick, but puts a smile on my face and delivers smooth power.

I have 3 children so the extra room was needed in this size of car.

Minor faults like the clock and speakers let the car down, the clock I know will get worse with time.

The rear suspension is creaking, but is to be addressed by the dealer next week.

Tyre wear is heavy on inner edge, keep a regular check on the tracking, but this is not uncommon on this size of tyre. (Not just Vectra).

Recaro seats are great, had them on my previous Mark 2 16V Golf. Comfort on any journey.

1999 Vauxhall Vectra SRi 140 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Nice looking car, but you must be willing to spend

Faults:

RPM sensor failed.

Camshaft sensor failed.

EGR valve failed.

Windscreen washer jets.

Air conditioning pipes were catching on the inner wing and causing a rather alarming noise.

General Comments:

The car looks really nice and is not uncomfortable. But why is it the Vectra is so unreliable?

I have spoken to many Vectra owners and read the reviews, and it would seem to me that the sensors are just not up to the job.

I went to the dealer for a 60000 mile service at a cost of 285.00 pounds, is this reasonable? I think not.
