2014 Volkswagen Passat Highline 2.0 TDi

Summary:

Worth it!

Faults:

No major problems.

Oil leak (easy repair).

DPF failed (expensive replacement).

Plus consumables and services. I also changed the cam-belt and water pump.

General Comments:

Metallic black "B7" Passat, best looking generation in my opinion.

Love this car. Fantastic to look at and drive. Can be expensive initially to buy and run - but worth it in the long run.

Really nice interior on this High-line model, lots of electronic extras.

The car is smooth cruising down the motorway. 2.0 TDi is punchy and still does around 50 mpg on average.

Interior space is good and you can get plenty in the boot.

For the price I paid, at ten years old now and it still looks as good as new! These are durable cars.

2014 Volkswagen Passat Highline 2.0 TDi

Summary:

Love it

Faults:

If you keep on top of servicing these cars won't let you down. I have done all oil changes on time, also changed the cam-belt.

The air con is starting to fail, and it needed some suspension work last year but that was about it. Brake discs and pads also renewed, all acceptable at current mileage.

General Comments:

For private use or use as a taxi, the Passat is ideal.

Big, comfortable and economical, this car is very hard to fault.

2.0 TDi "Blu-motion Tech" is a great engine, quiet for a diesel and always does 50 mpg+. Fast as well in my opinion. Gear change is slick, driving experience is good.

Nice looking car in darker colors.

High-line is a great specification and has all electrics.

Recommended, one of the best cars on the used market at the moment.

2014 Volkswagen Passat Executive 1.6 TDi

Summary:

A good choice

Faults:

Not much, but I have only had the car a year. Make sure you service these cars on time. They will return with reliability.

General Comments:

A bit expensive to buy used (easily a couple of grand more than an equivalent Mondeo or Insignia) but the Passat is best in this class in my opinion.

Last of the older shape on a 2014 model, before the new 2015 car. I prefer this car's looks anyway.

Such a solid feel even at 9 years old. My car is dark grey, alloy wheels (original VW) very smart appearance.

Interior is also gorgeous, Executive model has full leather and electric everything. Love being in this car. Every journey is a pleasure.

1.6 diesel is not fast at all (0-60 mph takes 11 seconds!!) but it will do you a solid 60 mpg all day long, especially on longer drives. Worst it did was 54, and best I have seen was 66 mpg. Very economical for its size and weight.

Reliable and good to drive, I hope to keep this car long term. I got a good deal on a low mileage looked after example however - be aware there are a lot of over priced high mileage cars out there that will be expensive to repair.

2014 Volkswagen Passat Tech Executive Estate 1.6 TDi

Summary:

An excellent all round vehicle

Faults:

Nothing, but I have only had it one year. Bought used in good condition with full dealer history.

General Comments:

The Passat estate has lots of space. This is the last of the older shape model for 2014. Prefer the look of this one anyway compared to the newer 2015 Passat.

Tech Executive spec is very well equipped. Interior is very functional and laid out well. Comfortable seats and quiet on the move.

Unless you want pure economy, avoid the 1.6 TDi engine - it is very slow, taking 12 seconds to get to 60 mph. Go for the 2.0 TDi. The 1.6 does do a solid 60 mpg though, which is impressive for a large estate car.

Really hard to say much more. VW Passat's always have been pretty boring - but solid, reliable, good cars.
