2004 Volkswagen Touran SE 2.0 turbo diesel
Summary:
I glad I went for a Touran, great car
Faults:
Only after one day did I make the mistake of fitting the very rear head-rest in reverse. This causes then to be locked in and non removeable. VW wanted the car for a day to release them. This can be put right be gently removing the collars and releasing the stem locks.
I wish VW could be more helpful at times.
General Comments:
This is the first VW I have had and so far very pleased. The 2.0 SE is as quick as you would ever need a family car to be, even with all seven seats full.
The ride is firm, but not uncomfortable.
The cruise control is great on the open roads.
Leg room on the second row is great, but the back row have a shallow foot well.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

"VW have started to make Tourans in South Africa"
Uh-oh. Having had the misfortune of owning a South African built Golf GT TDI for two years, and experiencing build quality that reduced the car to a rattling crate within 40,000 miles, I can't help thinking this is a mistake.

South Afica's build quality is not poor. It maybe that you had bad luck with your Golf. BMW South Africa even won the title of best built BMW in respect to other BMW building sites, including Germany. And, no they do not build Touran in South Africa - We only build Golf and Polo for VW.

I was very impressed when I test drove a 2.0 litre diesel Touran. I also hired a petrol engined Touran, which gave me a chance to see how good it is. It is impressive when the most basic petrol version proves such a success.
I see that people are begging for the Touran to be sent to the USA. People's comments appeared in the VW Vortex website.
