1972 Volkswagen Type II Holdsworth Camper 1.6 petrol

Summary:

It'll never let you down

Faults:

Much body rot.

Indicator lenses faded away.

All ball joints worn out.

General Comments:

Surprisingly quick around town, but painfully slow on long runs.

It NEVER breaks down, I love it to bits, it's like having a faithful old dog. I've tried to sell it to get a flash motor, but I just can't do it.

Just looking at it cheers me up!

Am I sad or what?

1979 Volkswagen Type II Camper - Viking Conversion 1.6

Summary:

Love it

General Comments:

Not very fast, but lifts you out of the rat-race, allowing you to chill out, relax & drive stress free.

Great fun, kids love it, sleeps 6 but would be a squash, we sleep 4 in it. A great multi-purpose vehicle. It is a van for carrying bulky things, we go camping in it, when we go for a day out with the kids we have a kitchen sink and a cooker - just what you need - it is no bigger (length & width, not height) than, for example, a Volvo estate.

All in all, I can't see the point of ever owning a car again when you can have all this in a vehicle!

1976 Volkswagen Type II Devon Moonraker 1.6

Summary:

A wonderful vehicle with heaps of character

Faults:

Accelerator cable snapped, indicator switch wore out and the clock has stopped working. Other than the above there has only been the general wear and tear expected of a car of this age.

General Comments:

Classic Volkswagen Type 2 vans are great workhorses and very reliable, provided they are maintained and serviced regularly. As the vans are very basic by today's standards there is very little to go wrong so they just run and run.

If you are only getting 50 mph there is a problem, you should be able to maintain 60-65 for long periods. I'd have it looked at if I were you.

I had a similar problem with my van only obtaining 45 to 50mph. It was because the throttle cable was stuck. It only cost £20.00 to have it fixed at an air cooled specialist garage.

1978 Volkswagen Type II Devon Conversion Camper 1.7

Faults:

Nothing too worrying really, just the usual wear and tear.

General Comments:

I have three vans at the moment all in various conditions, but I love them and I can't imagine selling them!!!!

They are fun to drive once you are over 50 mph and you have stopped cheering! It's fun trying to keep them in a straight line! But still you can't beat meeting another owner and chatting the night away over some chilled ones! Go on, get a VW Type 2, I dare you!

1973 Volkswagen Type II Camper 1.6

Faults:

Old van. Engine went on fire once, nearly lost the lot, but fixed in a car park on a Saturday morning with Haynes manual and a little guesswork, and it started first time!!!!!!!!!!!

Brakes cease every winter. Exhaust had to be replaced, used cheaper Beetle one, no problem.

General Comments:

Great van, easy to repair, fun. Hard to drive as no top speed above 55.
