1999 Volvo C70 2.4 Non turbo 170 BHP

Summary:

Smooth Going Fast Cruiser

Faults:

In-Dash Multi CD player jammed. Dealer to do an exchange swap for a repaired unit. Costing me 150 UK pounds.

Heated wing-mirror failing. Easily replaced with new one costing me fifty UK pounds.

General Comments:

I would rate the car as no racy performer, but a smooth going fast cruiser on the motorways. In town and around country roads it really does drink petrol almost 20 miles per gallon. The motorway is where the best economy can be achieved at 30+ miles per gallon. A full 70 litre tank of petrol costs me almost 50 UK pounds. A part from costs you really get some nice head turn looks and some even comment on not believing it's a Volvo.

2000 Volvo C70 GT CONV. 2.0T

Summary:

Comfortable cruiser

Faults:

Alarm goes off without provocation.

Immobilizer management unit replaced at 62,000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is very comfortable and the space for the rear two passengers is very good compared to that of the competition.

The dash and interior designs are looking rather dated now especially as those of the more recent Volvos are really excellent (despite what Ford's bosses may think).

After over two years of ownership the car's looks still grab me, especially with the 17" alloys.

This car must not be confused as being a sports car though. It handles like the modified estate car that I believe it is.

Biggest problem, for me, is that it only has 4 seats. So until Volvo or another offer a 5 seater convertible it is an XC90 for me next time.

We too have a C70 that has an alarm that goes off without provocation - did the replacement of the alarm management system result in the problem being cured?

17th Dec 2004, 03:02

I had the same problem with the alarm going of in my C70, until I read the handbook, where it says: do not put any coins or other metal objects in the space below the dashboard below the ashtray...

Problem solved!

The height of the C70 off the ground adds to it's good looks. However I have discovered that any speed humps or inclines, however slight, will result in the underside of the vehicle hitting the ground with some force.

I own a C70 and never had any unwanted alarm problems. However, owners should bear in mind that there can be some sort of alarm sensor around the ashtray area in the middle of the dash board, so it is advisable not to keep any metal objects in this compartment, ex: keyring/coins etc..

I own an Volvo C70 and I have same problems.

A: The front make noise and needed lubricated often.

B: Pirelli tires original were shaking the car.

C: Ceramic brakes recommended.

D; Front suspension very hard and very low.

The car is excellent and so far NO major problem.

Original battery still good - (distilled water periodically).

Front plastic cover towing hook I lusted 3 times (definitely needed to be connected to the CAR.)

1998 Volvo C70 T5 GT 2.3 T5

Summary:

A front wheel drive Ferrari!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

The C70 is unbelievably fast once the slight turbo lag has been overcome. Once it gets to 3000RPM -BOOOM!!! The mid range pace and acceleration are superb - and it does do at least 147 mph!!

The only bad thing is that the steering is too heavy for parking - try Irish roads!! And also the turning circle is a pain.

Otherwise - the styling, the interior, the ENGINE, and everything else rock!

Its navy metallic with beige leather - and you know the wheels!!

I really think that the C70 is great car, but for someone over 6 feet, the headroom seems quite the unfriendly type.

The C70 seats do go up and down, I'm 6'3" and it's fine for me.

I'am 6 foot 9 and it's fine for me!!

Is the C70 not rear wheel drive?

I have two things that if I can ask first is this an easy car to tune, and the next is can you fit a diesel d5 in this car. thanks for any info that you can give.

Amazing car T5 GT Auto utterly amazing, buy one you cannot go wrong.

29th Aug 2007, 07:26

You can easily tune it to about 300+ hp, if it is T5.

D5 is not suitable for that car. Newer models (2006 and later) comes with D5 engine new.

I absolutely love this car!!! It's got great looks, comfort... all around excellent car. Haven't had any major problems with it - my brakes are due, possibly change the timing belt... oh and yes the O2 sensors... Love it.

Don't put anyone taller than 6ft on the front seats of this car. Even at 6ft it's uncomfortable for the legs.

1998 Volvo C70 GT 2.5T petrol

Summary:

Smooth, suave and sophisticated!

Faults:

Nothing yet - but I've only had it for 1000 miles!

General Comments:

Awesome car! Superb styling, wonderful interior (including high quality soft leather) and outstanding refinement from the punchy engine. Also with the Dolby Pro-Logic option, it has got to have the best standard fit sound system on any car. Car is very practical with enough space for 4 adults and a large boot. Benz-like build quality. Rides smoothly and handles reasonably, although not as obviously adept in this regard like a good smaller car (eg. my previous Alfa 156). Transmission is very smooth and clutch is quite light for a car with such a big engine. If you can get one at a sensible price, this car is highly recommended - it's the best car I've ever owned!
