My 2002 TL S has just had it's third transmission put in and Acura informs me that they will not extend my warranty. the second transmission only lasted 3000 miles. Any advice? csullivan@moment.net.

I have a 2002 TL and have 64000 miles on it, and have had the tranny replaced twice under warranty.

This present tranny is also whining. We never had a problem with my old 2000. We won't be buying another one. Maybe a Lexus this time.

I agree with all the above comments about Acura 2002 and 2003 (Transmission) problems. I myself owner of 2002 Acura TL Type S. I recently, have a Transmission problem it went out on me. So, I take my vehicle to the Acura dealer and they fixed it for free of charge.

But I am very scared after reading the other people comments. I decided that I will sell my vehicle soon and next time I go buy a expensive vehicle I am going to do even more deep research.

I think the Manufacturing know about their Transmission problems on these fine expensive vehicles, but I don't understand why they are not taking any action.

I finally sold my 2003 TL-S last month (replaced with a G35 sedan). My transmission failed at 30k miles, and was replaced with a rebuilt unit. The rebuilt unit occasionally would "slip" in a similar fashion to the first one. Having bought the car new, it was very disappointing to be driving something so unreliable. I am so relieved to be rid of it now (sold it at 40k miles), and feel for the rest of you. MY advice would be to dump it, and move into something else. Teach Acura a good lesson by avoiding their vehicles in future.

Hi, I have bought 02 TL Type S a month ago with 37k miles. I like the car very much, but my transmission failed two days ago. I am taking it to the dealer; hope they will replace the transmission. I wonder if it happens only with Type S models. The fact that some transmissions would not last even more than 3000 miles, scares me. I also owned 00 Accord with 120000 miles and its transmission failed! I think Honda is loosing its rating. I do not consider it reliable any more.

I own a 2000 Acura 3.2 TL w/navigation I took my car in at 72,000 for the recall that was issued. Not noticing any problems they went ahead and performed maintenance on the car. Now at 92,000 miles my transmission went out. I thought of it as a fluke, but was thankful I had bought an extended 100,000 mile warranty and they informed me it was in fact covered.

I have also had problems with the navigation system not always turning on, my SRS light coming on as well as the auto dimming mirror going out and getting an air bubble in the center. I would never have expected this from Honda who prides itself on reliability and resale value.

I'm really frightened to hear of the transmission having to be replaced two or three times. I will seriously start considering another vehicle!

Just came across this thread and got scared about how may others have this issue. I so far considered my Acura 3.2TL 2002 48K very reliable car. Today Dealer called me up that Transmission went out, slipping between gear 2 and 3. No cost to me. But I am scared now.

I have a 2002 Acura TL 3.2 and the transmission completely died at 30,000 miles. They replaced it for free, and it started showing signs of slipping around 63,000 miles (current mileage). It's now in the shop and has had a new transmission installed. All I have left to do is pick it up.

I voiced my concern to the service rep there, and he said that the first replacement was attributed to the silent recall, but the fix they put in the second transmission was experiencing problems shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear. He assured me Acura was aware of the problem and has fixed it in this new third transmission they just installed.

I don't know - my confidence in the transmission is severely shaken if not shattered. How do I know it's not going to die again after 100,000 miles? I bought the extended warranty on it - and I'm thankful that I did, but if it dies after that, I'm S.O.L.

I'm really glad to have read your comments. I had problems with a 1995 Mazda 626 transmission that had to be replaced so I don't want another car with a bad transmission. Thank you!

I have a 2000 TL, and the transmission just started acting up at 92K miles (slipping into D5 and getting stuck, with D5 blinking, etc.). Acura did extend the warranty to 100K due to the recall, so I'm just under the wire.

I talked to the dealer and described the problem. Predictably, he started telling me that it might not be the transmission, just the solenoids. I responded that the symptoms were identical to what Acura describes in the recall notice, and he backed off. I guess we will see how it goes when I take it in tomorrow!

All right, so after reading the previous threads, I do not feel that it was just me who got the lemon. I too have replaced my tranny twice on my '02 TL-S, once at 26K and just last week at 52K. While I think that the car is great, the tranny blows and will cause you headaches from it going to the shop for another time. I really have not had any issues with anything else. I'm considering dumping my TL-S and looking for a new ride, b/c I won't want to be left holding the bag if the tranny fails again, which it sounds like it will. Thanks to others for their experiences.
