1996 Acura TL 3.2 from North America

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

Timing belt, ignition switch... that's all!

General Comments:

For the weight of the car, it accelerates VERY fast. It's always had premium gas, I don't want to chance not using it, and really, for $6.00 more a tank, I'm good with that. It's a GREAT car!

1996 Acura TL 2.5 from North America

Summary:

Fantastic

Faults:

A few leaky lines, some brake work, and a little body work in the wheel wells.

General Comments:

I was given the vehicle, it sat for two years and was just resurrected for about $1800, including new tires and battery. It is working great. I had an 89 Legend coupe before and LOVED IT, but it rusted out. I have been waiting to find one like this, and it works like a dream.

1996 Acura TL 3.2 3.2L V6 VTec from North America

Summary:

If you have a chance at a 1st gen TL BUY IT!!

Faults:

ABS and TCS lights stay on all the time while driving. (Neither system is working but the regular braking is fine so I have not had them looked at.) The stock CD Player no longer works but in the generation of the Ipod it really is not a big deal. Front seats are beginning to show wear, but what can you expect from 12 years of heavy use. Door handles are "foil wrapped" and have begun to unwrap. The only "real" problem has been the ABS/TCS system, and I bought the car with that issue already (it occured before I was the owner). 40k miles later and nothing has failed me.

General Comments:

Low end power is great. From 0-20 and especially 20-70 it just leaps out of the gate like a racehorse. Handles pretty well though it does have a little wider turning radius than I expected. The power steering almost feels like too much... sometimes you feel like you oversteer though you are right on track. You get used to it. The stock speakers are still sounding great after 12 years. It has never failed to start on me even in the worst of weather. It gets into negative temps here quite often in the winter. Heating and cooling system are extra cold in the summer and extra warm in the winter. Rides VERY comfortably and smoothly. Overall just and amazing car. Be aware that repair costs are somewhat high (parts for this baby are expensive) but... when you never have to get any work done on it who cares. It all evens out.

1996 Acura TL IL 5 cycl from North America

Summary:

Acura for the Long Haul BABY!!!

Faults:

General Maintenance

Timing Belts Drive Belts

Fuel Pump Went out

Distributor Cap O Ring

Exhaust Manifold Leak

O2 Sensor

Alternator.

General Comments:

I would recommend this car to anyone who wants entry level luxury at an very very affordable price. I would not got to an Acura Dealer for Maintenance though.

Wind noise is a bit high but that 5 cyl is very dependable. It can still burn rubber from the stop light if not careful with 283K it still drives strong.

I have had mine for 8 years. Keep the oil changed and don't let problems linger.

1996 Acura TL 2.5 from North America

Summary:

Complete peace of mind

Faults:

Radiator (twice 200K & 450K)

Ignition switch

Voltage regulator

Replaced all intake valves at 300k

A/C blower motor (twice)

CV joints once each side.

General Comments:

Car is pretty much all original except for the few parts I've listed as replaced. Original engine, transmission, rotors, struts.

The exterior is rust free (always garaged); the few dings it ever had I have paid to get removed (Dent Wizard). However, I've learned to fix them myself after watching them do it enough times.

Interior looks new except for the leather on the steering wheel, and a little wear on the drives seat.

Frustrations include wind noise (which I fixed with vacuum hose), rear brakes have to be replaced every 40k, rear wheel noise after tires get around 30k on them.

I live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains; this car handles very well and is very comfortable.

I have self maintained the car since I became disappointed with the dealer after the second timing belt change at 200k.

Hi, when you said that vacuum hose fix the wind noise, how does it work actually? I have myself a 1996 Acura TL 2.5, and am curious about reducing this wind noise.
