1988 AMC Eagle Limited Wagon 4.2 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

I love it

General Comments:

I purchased an Eagle wagon 15 years ago. It was a 1983 and this car was fantastic on snow and ice. I made a big mistake and sold it. I bought another Eagle last year. We had a bad winter and our driveway was deep. My wife's Subaru could not make it up the driveway; the Eagle climbed up it with no problem.

1988 AMC Eagle 258 4.2 from North America

Summary:

Wasn't bad for $600

Faults:

Had to re wire half the car.

Window switches for back doors stopped working.

Rear door would open on its own.

Hatch broke off.

Transmission.

Wheel hub separated.

Constant oil leak.

General Comments:

My 2nd car was an AMC Eagle my mom bought from an auction for $600. Always liked the AMC Eagle styling, but soon I'd realize it's not good owning a car that's been out of production over 20 years.

The handle on the passenger side rear door was messed up, if the inside handle wasn't flat in its spot, the door would fly open on left turns.

Had to rewire the engine bay after 4 months of ownership, kept having problems with keeping a charge and starting. Though I'm not sure it was all the car's fault, I think one of the shops I went to tried to scam me.

But, always got home before breaking down. Was a reliable car other than the electrical issues. Had her up til a few days before my 21st birthday, when the transmission went. After letting her coast to a stop, then the driver's side wheel hub came off, literally dropping the car.
