2000 Audi A6 2.7T from North America

Summary:

A lemon

Faults:

Enormous thump and jarring is felt (car slamming itself into gear or turbocharger behaving improperly).

General Comments:

An enormous "thump" occurs when, after the car has downshifted upon decelerating, I give the car a little gas (occurs in the low gears when, say, I come upon slower traffic, slow down, the car downshifts into 2nd or 1st gear and then I give it gas). Basically, the car is slamming itself into gear, or the turbocharger is not working properly, and the result is an alarminging jarring effect.

3 separate dealers have been unable to diagnose a problem, alleging that this is simply a normal occurrence ("aggressive gearing" is what one dealer termed it based on the intermix of regular and hydraulic gears - spare me) as a result of the engine distributing power to all four tires. The last dealership determined that it is a turbocharger byproduct that results from the car being "wound up tightly and ready to go".

Has anyone else experienced this??? Please let me know. I have thus far identified 2 other Audi owners with the same problem with their A6s. Audi USA is of no help, and the dealerships are even less sympathetic. In fact, one service person lost his job for keeping my car for 3 days because he recognized that it was a problem and wanted to try to fix it. His boss disagreed, telling me that nothing is wrong with the car, and terminated the employee in the process. Something is going on here, and I want to get to the bottom of it.

I have an A6 - 2.7 turbo - 2000.

I have experienced the same problem when my car downshifts. Also, the mechanism for the gas guage has been changed twice. Finally, during rapid changes of springtime temperatures it is often difficult to start the car; although after several attempts the engine always turns over.

Summary:

Stylish - However I just ended up with a defective product

Faults:

Whining sound from the engine/transmission. Most noticeable until the car warms up and then drops off slightly. Dealer/Audi cannot identify the sound and the car has been of and on in the shop. A concern and annoyance.

Annoyance - strange rattle from between the rear seats/suspension that the dealer cannot fix.

General Comments:

First experience with Audi. If the dealer cannot fix my complaints - I will never buy an Audi again.

I too experience a whining noise until the car warms up (A6-2.7). I am having other minor problems as well which I hope the dealer will address.

Faults:

The front air dam is too low. There is a design flaw in that there is a lip underneath that will get caught on the wheel stop in a parking lot, making it impossible to move without lifting the car. Audi is not taking any responsibility. There needs to be a flange to prevent this problem.

General Comments:

This is an awesome car. But if Audi refuses to listen to its customers, it will be reflected in the sales.

I agree completely about the low front air dam, the car gets caught on everything. I now have a visible tear on the rubber dam on the right side by the tire and numerous tears underneath. Anybody have any suggestions to fixing this, please post them.

I also agree - my dealer admitted that this is a frequent occurrence and is replacing the damaged air dam for me free of charge for the first occurrence. Any future occurrence will be on my tab. Apparently the problem is well known to my dealer, but Audi has not made a structural modification or correction to prevent damage in the future.

Faults:

Electronic glitch with placement of gear shift in P position. The computer reads the car is not in park and does not allow the ignition key to release.

General Comments:

Great road handling, very comfortable, quick yet isolated steering feel.
