1983 Audi Coupe GT 2.2L 5 cylinder fuel injected petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A great car to own and a great car to drive

Faults:

The distributor conked out.

Electric windows didn't work.

The drivers seat was worn through.

A little bit of rust round one of the wheel arches.

General Comments:

Well what can I say, I bought the car for NZ$120, that would be about 50 pounds, so it was a bargain X two!

The handbrake's a little stiff on hills, but it looks the part now I've put scissor doors on with my custom hinges, and softened the suspension to nearly as soft as it will go.

Painted it black with white pinstripes down the side. I also replaced the sunroof with one that has glass.

I changed the seats to ones with a 6 point harness and proceeded to use it for a bit of rallying.

Overall the Audi GT Coupe is a very versatile car. It can handle a great deal of whatever you want to put it through, even at 23 years old. If you are ever debating to buy that one just down the road, you should! If it looks a little scruffy, take it still because they shape up nicely!

1983 Audi Coupe GT5E 2.1 5 cylinder petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap, good looking fun

Faults:

Nothing so far, although I'm going to give it a good service, maybe have a look at the top end as it sounds very tappity. The full leather interior is showing it's age, although still in good condition considering the mileage/age.

The engine belches out a plume of black smoke when you first start it.

The brakes are crap. Must replace those too. Fan blower (interior heating) control switch broken. Exhaust clonks around a bit on over run. Suspension seems a bit clonky, but handles very well.

General Comments:

I bought my coupe for £300 and considering it's got a full stainless Scorpion exhaust (around £400) from the engine back, I'd say they threw the car in for free!

It was a bit of a risk buying a car with only 5 days of MOT left, but I needed something cheap and fun for 6 months while I sell my 306 and save up for an Impreza.

Let's hope the MOT doesn't find any nasty little surprises.

1983 Audi Coupe GT 2.2 gas from North America

Faults:

Really nothing aside from normal wear and tear. The car has 186,000 miles on it, with the original engine, and I have replaced shocks, clutch, brakes, cv's and wheel bearings - nothing out of the ordinary. Currently replacing muffler, heater core and the ignition module. When I replaced the clutch at 175,000 miles the mechanic stated that he was confident that it was the original clutch. The car has only left me stranded once in 5 years.

General Comments:

This car has been an excellent car. With 186,000 miles on it the engine is still extremely strong. The parts tend to be a touch more expensive than the VW that I also own but have found that some VW and Audi parts are interchangeable. I would wholeheartedly recommend Audi and its marvelous GT Coupe.
