1974 Bedford CF350 Nissan LD 28 diesel from Australia and New Zealand
Summary:
Stylish old camper van
Faults:
Overdrive on auto transmission burned out, had to replace the transmission, which cost NZ$1600.
Fuel system needed a new filter, injector system was serviced, injector pump belt replaced.
Relay on the glow plug timer burned out.
General Comments:
This is the Jumbo model with dual wheels at the back, it also has a pop-top fitted, high-back drivers seat, loud stereo, and dual batteries.
Originally it was owned by Ministry of Lands and Survey, who fitted a Holden 186 cubic inch 6 cylinder engine and LPG system. I would have preferred that, but the next owner installed the Nissan diesel and auto for economy. He owned the van for about 15 years, then swapped it for my motorcycle.
I've covered the length of NZ twice over in this van. It's not quick, but it's really cheap to run, and really stable on the road.
Apart from needing minor periodic maintenance, the engine itself seems to deserve it's reputation for being bulletproof.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
