1989 Bentley Turbo R 6.75L from North America

Summary:

Our Bentley is a great car

Faults:

Wiper blade.

Low tire.

General Comments:

This car is the most comfortable car I have ever owned. I have owned a lot of cars.

I am 72 years old. I have wanted a Bentley since I was 15 years old. This car has beautiful black paint. The yellow leather and dark wood interior is in excellent condition with little or no visible wear. My wife and I use this car for our weekly 60 mile trip to and from our farm. The car takes sharp curves with its huge Michelin tires and the 6750 CC V8 never fails to power the Bentley out of them.

Although we are old enough to need a driver, we appreciate the way it handles narrow blacktop and gravel roads. We are nearly 200 miles from the closest dealer, but do not anticipate needing him. This car came with a complete library of service and maintenance manuals. Even our sheep are impressed with this car!!!

1989 Bentley Turbo R 6.75 litre V8 turbo from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Like driving a small English drawing room with a spitfire engine attached to the front

Faults:

Failed to start once in the first week of ownership, trucked it to the local Bentley dealer, worked fine when plugged into the diagnostic machine and has never happened again. Get this - the dealer didn't charge me a cent as they couldn't find anything wrong after trying for 4 hours! First service was $2,000 after 12 months of trouble free motoring.

General Comments:

Unbelievably comfortable and cosseting. Makes other luxury cars seem pointless.

It is remarkable, but most probably it was a computer fault, which was corrected when the Bentley people plugged in the diagnostic device!

I know you have cheap petrol, but is the Bentley Turbo R more thirsty than the Mercedes S Class? I have acquired one recently, but I have to pass it on because the repair bill was too high, and that the annual maintenance is again too costly!

Hope that you are still driving and enjoying the car...

1989 Bentley Turbo R from France

Summary:

The last real Bentley?

Faults:

Nothing has ever gone wrong on this Bentley.

General Comments:

Why consider lesser cars if you can have a classic Rolls Royce or Bentley at reasonable prices.

Find a good low mileage one with service history and the car will be a lifelong joy.

Very fast, 100 % reliable, and oh so classy!

You should buy one even if only for the combined Connolly leather, wood and Wilton carpet smell alone, sit down and relax.

1989 Bentley Turbo R 6750cc from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A magnificent red turbocharged beast!

Faults:

New engine management computer required due to incompetence of an air conditioning company which spiked the the unit accidentally while recharging the A/C system. New unit bought from Bosch while I was on holiday in Germany for NZ$2000 instead of NZ$8000 through a New Zealand agent.

New fuel governor for the fuel injection unit bought for NZ$570.00.

Valve for the height control cleaned up so car no longer crouches in the garage overnight - $300.

Three new tyres purchased as originals, all developed bulges at 220 kilometres per hour which made the ride thereafter somewhat uncomfortable!

General Comments:

I'm pleased to say that this car now runs like clockwork and is an absolute pleasure to drive... boundless power and a wonderfully quiet, smooth ride makes this the best Rolls Royce/Bentley I have owned so far.. Mark you it took me an additional $20000 to get to this point in addition to the not inconsiderable purchase price...

I have recently purchased a 1990 Bentley Turbo RL and am extremely happy with it. The car does tend to slouch if it has not been started for a period greater than 24 hours though. I was interested to read above that the Gentleman had the accumulators cleaned, which fixed the crouching problem. My question is; is this a problem which needs accumulators to be replaced or do they simply need a clean out every now and then? I know the 1990 model has the more complicated adaptive or active ride suspension system.

Love the car in every other way, it is just something else to drive!
