1980 BMW 6 Series 633 CSi Straight Six from North America

Summary:

Engine seems respectable, and I appreciate the quality of the build, but hey, it's old

Faults:

Rust issues - driver's side door - metal around the hinge is separating due to rust/fatigue, and there are several less serious rust spots in wheel wells and around the edges of the engine bay. Leaks noted in boot - seal may need replacing.

Power windows inoperative. Power mirror motors weak.

Exhaust needs replacing - haven't driven the car due to this.

General Comments:

Not a huge fan, initially. I once owned a '72 3.0 coupe, and this car doesn't seem as nice. At this point, I'm hoping to sell it before it starts seeming like a good car to restore!

Front end suspension.

Brakes.

Carpet damp (leak).

Power windows.

All of the above repairs were worth it, and taught me a great deal about auto mechanics. Amazing car, so much character. Very smooth on the highway.

1980 BMW 6 Series 635CSi Euro British M30 Engine 3.5 litre from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Love it

Faults:

Bought as a weekender project car.

Have replaced entire suspension, lowered 1 1/2 inches.

Complete brake rebuild and overhaul of brake lines.

Rust removed from floor pan drivers side, rear right hand guard, front bumper.

Steering box collapsed 2nd day of ownership. Complete steering rebuild.

Driver's seat needs replacing. Front passenger seat looking tired.

Has had the paintwork touched up by the previous owner.

Boot needs re trim.

General Comments:

Absolutely love driving the car when it's not being repaired.

2/3 thirds complete from being restored to as it came off the assembly line. Have found some parts hard to obtain.

Handles like a new car. Loves a drink when pushed.

General feedback from other people is positive, and the car is a bit of a rarity in my area.

1980 BMW 6 Series 635 CSi 3.5 6 cylinder from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Fast, fat and furious

Faults:

Split power steering hose.

Clutch bearing.

General Comments:

The most beautiful car I've driven. Much more poke than the current 850 up to 100kmh and still got the looks to go with it.

Superb rear end action, slides round the corners magnificently. Only drawback is it goes like a V8, but also drinks like a V8.

I own one of these in Malaysia. Beautiful is one word to describe it. Passion is something you need to maintain it. And most of all, stay committed to the car because you're not going to find that many cars which can fit this description!!
