2000 Buick Century Limited Gas from North America

Summary:

Great car. Besides the road noise and gas mileage

Faults:

Since I have acquired the car, not a lot has gone wrong.

The rear passenger window stopped working at around 77k miles.

Had to replace a tie rod around 78k miles.

The car started to shake while at idle, and at low speed. From reading forums, I found out it was because the spark plugs needed to be replaced.

The original owner had died, and the car spent 3 years parked and not being driven. The car got its transmission overhauled around 50k. The second owner only drove it for about 5k, which was a friend of mine. I bought it from him.

General Comments:

The car is a dream. Very spacious. Everyone jokes and say it's a boat. It is very comfortable and smooth; you can't feel the road, but the road noise kind of sucks. It is not a sports car, so speed demons should not really get one. If you like a comfortable smooth ride, it is good for that.

The radio is not that great, but I could care less. Everything is still stock on it.

I'm taking very good care of it, because they last very long. Bought the car for $2k, but valued at $4k by KBB for a private seller.

As long as you take good care of the car, it will last you.

My great grandma had an '03. I had contemplated buying it for a second car, or even replacing my newer car and eliminating a car payment. She had taken very good care of it, and it only had less than 40K miles when she had to stop driving. I had a Park Avenue and the Century rode just about as smoothly. Alas my cousin ended up buying it for $5K, she needed it a lot more than I did (her old Cavalier was falling apart).

I really like the Buicks from the late '90s to the mid 2000s. In my opinion they had great looks, very comfortable rides as well as great fuel economy.

I now have an Enclave, which I really like, but it doesn't match my old Park Avenue for comfort or ease of driving, and fuel economy is at least 5 MPG less. I will never understand why all car manufacturers these days seem to want all cars to look like sports models and ride the same way.

Faults:

I too have the problem with the transmission whining and sticking in high gear. This started to happen around 50,000 miles on the car and continues. I had the solenoid replaced at a cost of around $700.00, and 5000 miles later it did it again. GM should recall this problem and fix it right. Wonder why people purchase foreign made cars?

General Comments:

Crappy design from a transmission stand point. The car is comfortable and great for travel. Always on edge if I will make it to work or not, since I travel 45 miles one way. Next car, I will check the reviews.

Putting in a shift kit solved my problems with this issue.

2000 Buick Century Custom 3.1 from North America

Faults:

Only problem I had was the trans started shifting hard. Got it fixed.

Shift solenoid and security problems; when you tried to start it, the light flashed, but I replaced the ignition cylinder and that fixed the problem.

2000 Buick Century 2000 Edition/Limited 3.1 from North America

Summary:

Besides the solenoid issue, a great car!

Faults:

I have the same problem as everyone else here; the transmission solenoid has gone bad several times. I bought the Century with 99k, and currently the car has 264K.

I have replaced the solenoid valve twice, and it needs it again now.

Besides that, just normal wear and tear, tires, brakes, alternator, CV-joints, plugs, wires, 02 sensor, EGR valve... The car is very easy to work on.

EXTREMELY RELIABLE. The car still has the original motor and tranny, water pump etc. The car does not leak or use any fluids. Still on original starter, fuel pump, AC is ice cold.

I would buy another Century in a heartbeat. 264K and counting!!!
