1987 Buick Skyhawk Sporthatch 2.0 ohc from North America

Summary:

Great little J car

Faults:

My head gasket blew at around 60000 kms. Other than that the car has been bulletproof.

General Comments:

This car was a great purchase. Not only is it a great looking little car, I have moved a sofa with it due to its functional design. This car has a lot of potential due to the hideaway headlamps and sporty lines.

1987 Buick Skyhawk Custom ? from North America

Summary:

An extremely reliable vehicle

Faults:

I've had to have a catalytic converter put on it. That's it.

The car drinks up more gasoline than a camel in the hot desert.

Interior lights, radio, tape deck, and horn no longer work due to some blown wires.

General Comments:

This car is so reliable. It has taken me each and everywhere I've needed to go. The engine and transmission are awesome!

1987 Buick Skyhawk Sport/Hatch 2.0 L from North America

Summary:

A repair nightmare. Stay away

Faults:

The transmission went at 50,000.

Then it went again.

Then the alternator went at 60,000.

The air conditioner stopped working at 65,000.

Then the engine blew up at 75,000. I had it replaced with a duplicate engine with 25,000 miles on it.

At 100,000, the car was barely road-worthy.

The paint chipped, cracked and faded, even with good care.

The exhaust pipes regularly rotted away. The car was sluggish ALWAYS.

General Comments:

It's cars like this one that make us appreciate GOOD cars.

The one cool thing about the car were the flip-down headlight covers. That's about it, though.

I also have the turbo Skyhawk, it has 60000 miles. I have already replaced the motor once and the head four times, two times on the first motor and two times on the new motor. I still love the car even if I can't drive it.

One of the best cars we've had. The Buick T-type Sport. A 4-cylinder that rocked with a standard. Nobody new what kinda car we had. Bought it used out of south carolina with 72,000 miles and drove it another 50,000 with no problem except to replace struts and a timing belt. Cool wheels, Cool covered tail lights, pop-up sunroof and of course those covered pop-down headlight covers.

1987 Buick Skyhawk Custom 2.0 from North America

Summary:

A fun, sporty, economical but ugly car

Faults:

Alternator broke at 100,000.

Exhaust system is loud and rusty.

Car rusts quickly.

Tape deck broke.

General Comments:

This car is reliable. It has never broken down.

The battery needs to be replaced fairly often, although the alternator and electricals seem to work properly.

The car, when driving, feels very sturdy.

The front and back seats are very comfortable, but there is not much space for the passengers in the back.

The tape deck on the radio works when it wants to, but the radio is very good. The speakers, though, are not very good.

The car is sporty looking, but the steel hub-caps that came with the car are extremely ugly, and the fall off constantly. I am thinking about purchasing new caps.

The placement of the air conditioner is not the best, it is hard to get to and very distracting while driving, but it does work very well.
