1975 Cadillac DeVille 502 CU V8 from North America

Summary:

If you don't have one, get one! You won't be sorry!

Faults:

Needed a rear transmission gasket.

Needed a seal on oil pan.

Needed new brakes (the ones on it were the originals).

Antenna works, but doesn't go all the way down.

Slight wear on driver's seat.

Headlight adjustment tabs are shot.

General Comments:

I absolutely love this car! I have wanted one of these since I was 10 years old, and I finally have one.

The engine starts up every time, it runs amazingly, it's very easy and inexpensive to fix, and it floats down the road.

The car had been sitting up for a long time when I bought it, so a lot of the rubber seals were shot, but that didn't cost that much to fix. Put on new front brakes, new power steering pump, fixed a few seals like the oil pan gasket and the transmission rear seal, and it's running like a champ.

Frankly, the biggest problem I've had is finding the correct tabs to keep the headlights in adjustment. Also, the A/C blower motor is out, but I'm sure that won't be a huge deal to fix.

I am so happy I bought this car, and can't wait to get it completely restored!

Have yet to figure out how much mileage it gets, but I've driven about 175 miles on 1/2 tank of gas, combo city and highway driving.

My car is a sedan, and I can't wait to add a coupe deVille to my stable!

Do yourself a favor and don't check the mileage. After all, I am sure you didn't buy the car for its fuel economy. If you need to worry about fuel, this is definitely not the car for you in these times.

1975 Cadillac DeVille Coupe 8.2L from North America

Summary:

American Steel!!!

Faults:

Nothing other than the usual stuff on older cars.

Replaced head gaskets due to poor repair by previous owner. Hoses and belts, that kind of thing.

General Comments:

Nice. Rides great. Handles surprisingly well for a 5200 lb car. Sway bars!!! You get lonely driving around by yourself!!

1975 Cadillac DeVille Coupe 500 from North America

Summary:

Awesome

Faults:

Previous owner did a poor job replacing the head gasket. Had to install new ones.

Automatic climate control programmer doesn't work... trying to figure it out!

HEI module went south, but it was the original so I blame myself for not replacing it when I got the car.

Can't bring myself to cut into the dash to install a newer radio... 8-track isn't top of the line these days!

Gas gauge is pretty inaccurate below half a tank, but all older cars are!

General Comments:

One of the most comfortable rides, but you still feel connected with the road.

Powerful, but you can tell it has some serious weight. Not afraid of hitting anything smaller than a school bus!

Glides down the highway effortlessly.

Other than the automatic climate control (have to manually move blend door from hot to cold) and the cruise control (some wiring caught fire sometime long before I owned it, so will have to rewire some things) all the electronic goodies work well!

1975 Cadillac DeVille Sedan 4 door 500 CID V8 8.2L from North America

Summary:

A huge powerful luxury barge beast!

Faults:

The alternator went at about 92,000 miles.

The power antenna quit.

The A/C developed a disconnect.

General Comments:

This car has a lot of power with its 500 CID 8.2L engine.

She makes for a very comfortable ride.

Even when things haven't been kept up on, she runs regardless. It makes this car very reliable.

Everything works, but what was stated above.

I replaced the water pump, power steering pump, steering gear, alternator, battery, exhaust, spark plugs, wires, hoses, and brakes to keep everything in good condition.

I put new air springs on the back, rebuilt the carburetor, installed a new power antenna, fixed the A/C, and did interior repairs.

The previous owner did nothing to maintain this car, and yet it ran!

I was getting about 9.5 mpg before I did anything. After carb work, I got it to jump to 13.75 mpg. I redid the exhaust and with a tune-up, it's now around 16 mpg. I'm going to do a few more things and it might increase further. I've heard my mileage is really good already however.

Overall, I love this car! I can't think of another I'd rather have. This is my first vehicle too.

I did a keyword search for 1975 Caddy and found some interesting remarks. I am having poor mileage and know I needed some work done-these remarks hit it on the spot. I believe all these things & more need doing. Thanks for the insight.

I'm the owner of the above car.

I've since did a lot more to it as well.

I rebuilt the transmission myself with improved parts and will be installing a tranny fluid cooler (I think its stupid to run it into the radiator).

Just finished rebuilding the front end (everything is new) and I'm going to install new body mounts.

Biggest help for mileage:

1. Rebuild the Carb

2. Tuneup (spark plugs & wires, timing, vacuum advance, air filter, etc.)

3. Tire pressures & alignment (wheel bearings too)

4. Good old oil change.
