2000 Cadillac DeVille from North America

Summary:

A good car for long distance driving, but take your tools

Faults:

The car vibrates when the brake was applied... change rotors and brakes etc seemed to solve the problem; the car cuts off when driving and we are going to replace the Crank Shaft Sensors (both upper and lower) to see if that solves the problem!

General Comments:

This car is a beauty when it is running well!

2000 Cadillac DeVille DHS Northstar from North America

Summary:

Will buy another one for sure

Faults:

Window Regulator was broke when I bought it. Easy fix.

Car Shook at 70 mph when I bought it, but the tires were miss matched and non directional. I purchased new Michelin Hydro Edge tires that are directional, had them high speed balanced and that took care of all the shaking. Drives like a dream now, as solid at 110mph as it is at 40mph. I dont know why so many people are having problems with this.

General Comments:

Awesome Power.

Very Good Looks, We get compliments on it all the time and it is 7 years old.

Comfortable, Its like the seat was built just for me.

Unbelievable Gas Mileage, I drive up the Florida coast probably twice a month. At 75 mph I am get 31 sometimes 32 miles per gallon, that is with the A/C going. My 4 cylinder Saturn is supposed to get 30 mpg, but the best I have gotten with the A/C on is 25 mpg. And the Saturn has half the miles of the Caddy. Both use synthetic oil and have K&N air filters.

Would you care to describe your problems in any meaningful detail? That is sort of the point of this site.

Well, then we'll have to assume the problems are all in your head.

The poster's attitude to keep his problems "confidential" may be why he can't get them fixed, as he put it.

The DeVille was all-new for 2000 so this might explain the problems: bugs not fully addressed in the manufacturing process.

2000 Cadillac DeVille DHS Northstar V8 from North America

Summary:

I like the car, but feel GM could have done better in the design

Faults:

I have had the car in several times to replace crank sensors. When only two months old, the lock on the drivers side door came loose and fell inside the door. I have the same problem as several other people with vibration between 60 and 70 mph which I had thought was an unbalanced tire problem. Apparently, it is not as others on this forum have commented about various unsuccessful efforts to fix this same problem in their Deville or Seville.

I had a problem with knocking at about 25000 miles. I took it to the dealer for service and found it was a common problem with this model of Cadillac, and it was apparently caused by carbon build up in the cylinders. He removed spark plugs and filled each cylinder with a cleaner and let it soak for 24 hours. The cleaner was then removed and the spark plugs reinstalled. It did fix the problem, but the service representative acknowledged that this problem might reoccur. I found my own solution to the problem. I started using premium gas instead of the regular gas the manufacturer recommended. Also (and this is very important), I put a bottle of Chevron Techron into the gas tank every 2000 to 3000 miles. I have put 25000 additional mile on the car, and I have had no more problems with the knocking.

I still have the vibration between 60 and 70 mph. I guess I will just have to live with this problem.

General Comments:

I like the look and design of this car.

I have been disappointed with the vibration problem.

There is also a wind noise problem starting at about 60 mph.

I am somewhat disappointed that it has had so many problems requiring return visits to the dealer.

Knocking in the engine. Is techron a engine oil? I have a malibu with a knocking problem. Is there any problems with putting oil into the gas tank?

Techron is a gas additive that chevron sells and can be picked up at any gas station.
