You must understand that this car is for the enthusiast that loves to care for his car. I'm on my second 85 ElDorado; this one the Commerative Edition with 98000 miles and is serviced discriminatively. Have never had any problems and car looks and runs "like new" and is really very special with its "commerative" highlights. It's still a head turner and I believe one of the "classic" body styles never to be seen again.

I used to have a 1986 Eldorado.. It was the best car that I ever had. I bought it with 84,000 miles on it... and drove it for five years... at 155,000 it did blow the head gasket, which at that point I just decided to get rid of it... but I got 70k miles out of with with practically no problems (had the alternator replaced around 100k) I had heard something about a problem with the 4.1L V8 that it had..I'd love to get another one.

I read in the above a reference to the 1986 being a convertible, but in the various discussion a 1985 Eldo is also mentioned. I want to point out to new Eldorado owners, the 1985 version is the last of a generation, the first downsized coupe introduced in 1979. The Touring Coupe version came on the scene in 1982 at the earliest, if memory serves. Most 1976 Eldo convertible owners were horrified to find GM and ASC making convertibles for 1984 and 1985 Eldos, but that ended with the smaller (dreaded downsized era) 1986 to 1992 Eldos. I may be wrong here, but I don't recall any other then customs. Other lines changed body designs at different times, such as the Deville from 1985 to 1988.

I had a 1986 eldorado, and it was nothing, but trouble. I paid $2,500 for it in 1997 and 6 months later the engine had to be replaced at 118,000 miles. 1 year later the transmission went. The only fluid this car didn't leak at one time or another was washer fluid. other problems included power window switches kept falling off, digital dashboard stopped working, driver side power seat would not go forward. I loved the way this car looked and I wish it had been more reliable It had a great ride even smoother than my current car a 1993 lincoln mark viii.

I have a 1984 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible. I love it although the electrical switches require a special touch. The 410 V8 is a dream. I've cruised all over the south with it, and it turns heads wherever I go. Very comfortable ride. I have over 80000 miles on it, and it purrs like a kitten.
