2005 Chevrolet Aveo from North America

Summary:

I would try an Aveo again, only if regularly serviced by Chevy

Faults:

Radio out at 60000.

Needed to replace a valve.

General Comments:

I babied my car. However, where I went wrong was not taking my car to be serviced by Chevy for proper PREVENTIVE maintenance. I thought I would be spending an enormous amount of money in dealing with the dealership service dept. $1000 in just the last 30 days, boy was I wrong. The service center that I had been faithfully dealing with, since purchasing the car over 2 years ago, was putting the wrong oil in my car. Aveo's do best with synthetic oil because of the size of the port. Other oils cause it to clog (tell that to my wallet since I had to pay $130 to get all that crap cleaned away today). Also, I didn't know that my timing belt was due at 60000. I'm currently on borrowed time at 64K!!! My regular service department didn't even mention it to me and I was there just today!!!

By the way, my regular service center was VERY WELL KNOWN ACROSS THE STATES, which, apparently, matters not. I need preventive maintenance. Not reactive maintenance.

2005 Chevrolet Aveo from North America

Summary:

Full of problems, has been in at least 10 times

Faults:

The vehicle will not come out of Park. I have read this is the face on the 2004 models, and I am also experiencing this on my 2005 Chevy Aveo. I only have 45,000 miles on the vehicle.

General Comments:

I called the dealer and they say it is not recalled, but when I call the auto parts places in my area, they say this is a recalled part and can only be obtained from the dealer? Not real sure who is telling the correct story as of right now.

I'm not sure if you already fixed the problem, but that happened to me as well. Turned out it was an $8.00 sensor that sits under the steering wheel, and took my husband 5 minutes to fix. The dealer wanted me to take it in and leave it for a few days while they checked the car. I'm sure after a few hundred dollars they would have called and gave me a song and dance.

I have replaced the engine at 70,000 miles due to the timing belt breaking and basically destroying my lego engine.

At 60,000 miles and after warranty issues, the computer was completely replaced. Also, replaced was the catalytic converter or something like that at the same time as the computer.

Thank goodness for the warranty, which by the way has already ran out. Of course you could guess the stupid car is still up to no good. The daytime driving lights now don't want to turn on automatically, so I am driving with my lights on at all times.

Today, I went to go get the state inspection and the darn thing failed due to the crack sensor and the fuel injector circuit condition. I have no idea what all that is, but I am sure it was due to the replaced engine. I didn't get it replaced with a dealer because they wanted $3000 for all work and labor. I had a junk yard 2007 engine put in and all labor for $1000. Now my warranty is expired with the junk yard, but now I have these problems. I will never buy another Chevy again, and for the matter an Aveo!!!

2005 Chevrolet Aveo LS from North America

Summary:

Cheap to own and a good daily driver

Faults:

Car stalled for no reason at around 18k miles. Dealer traced this to poor negative ground to body connection.

Had to replace timing belt at 60k miles. Good thing I did, the pulley tensioner was already cracked.

Replaced air filter with K&N high flow, to increase engine performance and fuel economy.

Replaced tires to 195/60 R14 to improve road holding ability, and switched to sport springs to reduce sway, plus the lowered look is a plus.

General Comments:

Overall, the car is good enough for around town driving. I bought this car new as a basic transportation. It has A/C, AT, and a radio; cruise control would have been nice, but was not available on the LS sedan models.

Except for the poor negative ground to body connection, which cause the car to stall, it has served me well as a daily driver.

I replaced the air filter with a high flow filter (K&N) to improve engine performance and fuel economy.

The original tires were too small, which contributed to a lot of sway. Switching to 195/60R14 and a set of sport springs solved that problem.

I have no problems keeping up with traffic at highway speeds +70mph.

If you have not changed your timing belt at 50k miles, you could be taking a big chance.
