1998 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3 from North America

Summary:

I love it!

Faults:

Not sure of the mileage on any of these, but all within the past year.

Windshield wipers on intermittent take a while to turn off. Not bothersome enough to spend $$$. Will eventually though.

Turn signal continuous clicking noise, husband replaced fuse $5 in glove box, continued for a week then stopped.

Loud exhaust, repair shop (not dealer) found no problem.

Loud humming noise, also noted battery draining. Replaced alternator $90 and serpentine belt, humming still sporadic. Husband noted fairly easy to replace alternator compared to full size p/u.

Red coolant is for 5 yr/100,000 miles, beginning to be sluggish at 5 yrs, 88,000 miles, flushed and replaced $90.

Prior to this past year, replaced battery at 3 years, replaced tires at I think 3 years, fuel filter broke from fuel line for no reason. When using the rear wiper, with spraying wiper fluid, it leaks into the back cargo area. Does not leak when it rains and have not been able to pinpoint area of leak.

General Comments:

I have NEVER been stranded in this car and would buy another one, if they still made this size. I plan to keep it 4 more years or so. The problems I mentioned were just a bit annoying, but not enough to get rid of it. My very first car bought brand new and paid off.

1998 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3 from North America

Summary:

Nothing Major, but this car is one HUGE Annoyance

Faults:

The driver's side window motor shorted out at 35000 miles, and has started developing the same type of problem at 95000 miles.

The seat adjusters have been replaced 4 times, twice per seat. They are currently broken now, I just refuse to replace them again.

The rear window leaks air and water. It has been repaired twice, and still has the same problem.

The dashboard is a plethora of electrical problems. The gauges have started to quit when driving, not all the time, seemingly at random intervals. The odometer comes on, then goes blank, then comes on again.

It seems to have the same problem with the wipers that all blazers do, sometimes they come on, sometimes they don't go off, sometimes they don't come on. Fortunately, I live in Texas, and it does not rain much.

General Comments:

I thought it would be a good entry level SUV for a second time car buyer. I have really had no major problems that keep it off the road, but it is the little annoyances that have really bothered me. Most of them are the electrical shorts that the dealer could not fix when the car was under warranty because the problem wasn't happening right then. The problems I have, I can live with, but the craftsmanship is poor, and I had hoped more from this product. I won't buy from GM again.

1998 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3L V6 from North America

Summary:

Doubles as a fine family of 5 SUV and Handyman's utility vehicle.

Faults:

Replaced the pitman and idler arms due to loose steering.

Replaced positive battery cable.

Replaced driver side power window motor.

Replaced fuel pump and filter.

Replaced passenger side seat adjuster handle.

All four disk brakes thoroughly serviced and pads replaced.

Air conditioner serviced and compressor seals replaced.

Replaced serpentine belt.

Wiper speed control modulator fails often. Soon to be replaced.

Must refill water coolant reservoir monthly.

There is a persistent unknown knocking noise beneath the dash or on the other side of the engine firewall.

General Comments:

I bought this S10 Blazer just 2 months and 2,000 miles out of warranty and spent over $1,200 on noted repairs within 45 days of purchase.

I like this vehicle and have invested in a trailer hitch and mud flaps for show. Unfortunately, it's resale value bottomed out and I can't recover my loan even if I wanted to sell it.

The knocking on the other side of the firewall is most likely your heater core.
