1999 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3 from North America

Summary:

Money pit since day one

Faults:

53,000k front wheel bearing $400

60,000k encoder motor (controls transfer case) $900

75000k front wheel bearing

Seatback levers fell off

Rotors front/rear done 3 times

Replace pads at lest once a year (I buy in bulk)

Rear brakes are constant trouble

Ball joints replaced 3 times

Drivers door sags

Heater core / radiator flushed twice - still gurgles

U-joints replaced several times

I remove ABS fuse in the winter - unsafe on ice/snow

I am now doing brakes and need $500 front end work so I can finally sell this thing and cut my losses.

General Comments:

This is my 5th Blazer - was happy with the older ones.

They took a decent design and ruined it with "upgrades"

4.3 engine is an excellent, decent gas mileage for a 4x4.

You can't afford to keep it, and you can't afford to sell it - but it's time to move on.

1999 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4.3L from North America

Summary:

Very reliable until high mileage

Faults:

Let's see. The car has 130k on it, and in the last 15k miles I have replaced the upper ball joints, lower ball joints, front wheel bearings, rear wheel bearings, fuel pump, brake pads, rotors, drivers half shaft, drivers door pins and fuel pump.

The passenger seat handle was broken when I bought the car, but I failed to notice it until too late.

I bought it with 48k on it and the vehicle has been extremely reliable up until 115k. It loses power once it warms up. That is being diagnosed now.

General Comments:

Great vehicle until you start getting over 100k; then everything seems to fall apart at once.

You think that's fun? Wait until the lower intake manifold gaskets go out. LOL Trust me, it WILL happen.

1999 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4.3 V6 from North America

Summary:

Waste of money

Faults:

Both Seat levers fell off.

Tape player broken, not worth fixing at $200.

Irratic Engine light.

4WD WAS great, until it stopped engaging... Dealer said it was actuator, TWENTY SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS and 500 miles later, broken AGAIN.

Left from control arm gone at 70K miles.

Heat sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

General Comments:

The Chevy Blazer was a dream car for my first year of ownership, then everything went downhill. The car was great in the snow and could easily outperform even Jeep vehicles in off-road situations. The, the problems hit...

This car is great as a second vehicle for snow or as a chore/ errand vehicle, but is VERY unreliable. I have spent more than double the car's value on repairs and dealer service has been sub-par.

The Blazer is underpowered and feels taxed with four adults. Accelerating to 60 MPH with a fully loaded vehicle caused the engine light to go on and a new "mystery" noise coming from the engine...

Good points:

4WD when it works (I will NOT buy another vehicle with "push button" electronic 4WD, even if the manuel shifter on the floor is being discontinued in favor of electronics Ill buy a used jeep/ford)

ICE cold Airconditiong (All GM trucks have good A/C)

1999 Chevrolet Blazer LS V6 4.3 from North America

Summary:

If you got fix it money, this car is for you!

Faults:

Wow what a terrible car. I bought it in '05 and been putting money into every month it seems. Some may be my fault though.

Rear wiper went out.

Replaced all ball joints.

4 wheel drive somethingorother costed.

CV Shaft replaced.

Wheel Bearings replaced.

Now it won't start if I turn key back to listen to radio for 15 minutes. Need to let it sit for 2-4 hours and it will start!

General Comments:

Glad I am somewhat of a mechanic or I would have put more money in a mechanics pocket it in the past 3 years than in the gas tank!

But I do like how it handles off-road.
