Has anyone raced a 1996 Camaro RS (automatic) and know how fast it can do the 1/4 mile? Also what kind of (fast) cars it can beat? I was just curious, as I don't really plan on racing it, I just want to know for bragging rights, lol. I just got it and it is still snowy here in WI so I can't go very fast as its not good in snow, although the 2nd gear upgrade for the 96' helps some. Thanks to anyone who can answer my questions.
I LOVE MY CAMARO!! Fast car with great sound!! And T-Tops!!

Well I have a 1996 Camaro RS/Y87/F1 package 5-speed stock, that has run 14.2. The 3.8 makes a lot of torque. I recommend getting a turbo from force-fed-fabrications.com if you are going to beef it up.

There, I said it! I lost to the darn thing!
But I did get out of the hole quicker!!!

Hey I just wanted to update the last comment I have a 1996 v6 5-speed and I did beat a 1997 gt it was fairly close, but I did beat him we raced down the a street that is exactly 1/4 mile. And yes his was a 5-speed as well so a v6 camaro can outrun a 4.6l v8 the 3800 is a very powerful motor and most people do not think so, but it is very good motor.

I agree that the 3800 is a great engine. In fact it is so great that the Buick Grand National has that engine and is one of the best American muscle cars you can buy; it is turbocharged though.
Also I have a Grand Prix GT with a roller engine, shift kit and a chip cool air intake, and I can take 4.6 liter stangs all day. Also now that I supercharged it, I will eat any 5.0 or 4.6 alive. I can also run with the LT1 Camaros.
This engine is for real. Don't knock what you don't know. But I want to upgrade to the LT1 Firebird soon.

One thing we can agree on. The 3800 V6 is a fantastically great engine, in one of GM's offerings that is not supposed to be a performance car. The turbo 3.8 in the Grand National is acceptable. Your Camaro V6 is neither a fast or performance car.
