Wow... you basically wrote a novel to prove nothing other than your own personal opinion and hearsay, none of which matters.
I personally don't care about hybrids, MPG or any of that, not my first concern when buying a car. Practicality comes first, ie cargo space, interior comfort for long trips, reliability, return on investment.
My friend and his fiance however just bought the new Chevrolet Cruze. So far they love it, great MPG, and it is fun to drive.
The Pruis may be OK, but it downright butt ugly. Not for everyone that's for sure. Certainly not for me. Good MPG from what I've heard, but expensive batteries to replace too.
Anyways, to each his own, but no need to badmouth Chevrolet. My family has owned over 20 GM products over the years, and each and every one has been super reliable and a great investment.
My GM work van has over 400k on it, and still running fine. I also owned a Pontiac Parisienne that had over 350k, and a Chevy Celebrity with over 350k on it too; all were sold still running well.
Of course, this is my personal experience as well, opinions and hearsay too.
I am just tired of the unfair bias towards domestic cars on this site. Some people seem to have nothing better to do than bash cars they have never driven.

Thank you for a great and honest comment. It does get old when the same people bash the domestics.

You are right. People keep bashing Toyotas and Hondas when they've never owned them. I on the other hand, have owned enough GM vehicles so I am not just bashing them without poor actual experience to back me up.
I don't think the bias against domestics is unfair really. I mean look at virtually every source that rates and tests vehicles in this country. They are all in favor of the import brands. Yes, people have brought forth tid-bits of information from various sites, that lead you to believe domestics can really compete, but the overall picture is in favor of import vehicles. It has been for over 30 years now, so why people continue to argue about it is beyond me.

You are right... some things never change. People will continue to support lame corporations like GM no matter what. Welcome to the socialist America... the land where no one fails. Oh what a happy place!! Peace!!
Yeah, keep on listening to the media....

Comment 10:08 (or should we say BOOK 10:08?) gives not a single fact, while obviously not even reading the comment it is supposedly replying to.
GM HAS added over 10,000 new U.S. jobs since 2008. Check the facts.
GM HAS added a number of plants in the U.S. since 2008. Check the facts.
GM HAS created more TAX REVENUE for the U.S. government than the amount of the (now repaid) loan guarantees. Check the facts.
GM HAS built the highest MPG non-hybrid in the U.S. (the 50 MPG Chevy Cruze Eco). Check the facts.
GM's failure would have destroyed so many auto and NON-auto-related companies, that there isn't space here to list them all (even using as much space as 10:08).
We are NOT in a depression, or even a recession at present. Again, CHECK THE FACTS.
Jobs are growing, the economy is on the way up and unemployment is declining in the face of all that the Republicans can do to wreck the economy, to try to win the election this year.
I hate to see die-hard anti-U.S.-business advocates waste so much ink trying to keep a long-dead myth alive. The facts are: GM is alive, well, and projected to earn 8 BILLION in profits this year. GM outsells Toyota and will continue to do so (which, rather than anguish should evoke pride in any REAL American). GM builds REAL cars, with REAL warranties that do not look like kitchen appliances. It might behoove the author of comment 10:08 to, if nothing else, just SIT in a new GM car. Bashing car you've never even looked at makes zero sense.

...and welcome to your Socialist America. The land where companies aren't allowed to fail, and fear lives by and large. Above and beyond the sub par products GM produces, I simply don't believe in supporting failed business plans. I think that makes for a weaker country, and teaches our children that it is okay to fail, as there will be no consequences from doing so. To each their own I guess.
You have stated no real facts either (other than media spewed hype), as you've proven not one of them, and obviously don't want to provide actual sources for any of your supposed data. I'm sure you think the unemployment rate is actually 8.3% too right? And suppose GM did create the thousands of jobs here... they also created thousands more in foreign countries. Does that ends justify the means? Not as far as I'm concerned. If you are going to be an American car company, then be ALL AMERICAN. I have the same complaints about Ford too, but at least they are competent enough to survive on their own, and they build a decent product.
So seriously, believe what you want to believe about companies like GM. Keep thinking they are your friends... ha ha ha.. Sorry, that still makes me laugh! You really need to go to Detroit sometime, and see the ruins your "friends" left that once great city in. In the end, it won't matter, because government propped up industry will not sustain. We live in such a weak country now, with a government that is grasping at straws to try and salvage any business that is left. GM failed miserably. Being in denial about that FACT isn't going to change it. Believing that a miracle has occurred and GM is suddenly the high and mighty car builder after a year or two from bankruptcy is short sighted at best. Media hype, plain and simple!

So why did you comment on my post about Toyota, but say nothing about the post I commented on that stated the Pinto fires were media hype? See how you focus only on the stuff you disagree with? Oh, but I suppose anything against the domestics really is media hype right? Uh huh.
15th Feb 2012, 10:40
I don't listen to the media, I go by my own experiences, just like you... Remember?
15th Feb 2012, 19:11
Sorry, but I can't buy a Chrysler or Government Motors car. I've looked at them, and just find them unreliable. I'll buy a Ford before a GM or Chrysler.
It would have been better to let GM & Chrysler go under. They would have come back with much better cars. Their cars really haven't changed, especially Chryslers. They come across as tacky cars that aren't built very well.
The Neon had to be the worst car ever made. I knew quite a few people who bought one, and they were so glad to get rid of it.

"That's good news for the U.S. government, which still owns 26.5 percent of the company and is waiting for the share price to rise even more before it can to recoup the bailout money."
This I just read from a story posted this morning about GM's record profits. So why is it that multiple people on this site claim GM has paid back all of the bailout money... over and over and over?? Maybe you all should be more informed about what actually is going on, before claiming GM has paid back their debts.

Once again, blame it on the media, and everyone you know has no problems with theirs.
Some things never change.
