2000 Chevrolet Impala LS 3.8 from North America
Summary:
I hope to make 500000 with my Impy
Faults:
At 223000 miles the traction control comes on, then shuts off; the ABS light comes on as well. It doesn't do this all the time, but is annoying.
General Comments:
I have had no other issues. I have been so blessed with this car! My other car is a 2004 Avalanche, but it doesn't consistently get 28 to 30 miles per gallon like my Impy does!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Airbags have two or more sensors (usually one in front and one in the fender area). All sensors have to detect a collision to deploy airbags. If the collision is not at a high enough speed or is on an angle that doesn't upset all the sensors, they won't deploy.
Also some vehicles will not deploy airbags if the seat belt is not buckled (start your car with the seat belt buckled and the dinger will not ding and seat belt light will be off. Start it when it is unbuckled, and you will hear the warning chime and the light will be on; this demonstrates that there is a switch in the buckle).
I have towed a '00-'05 Impala that had a head on collision at 45+ mph with a full size Dodge Ram. The driver had broken legs/pelvis but lived. She would have died in many other cars. The dash was pushed back 4" and all the firewall to the B pillar spot welds were torn, engine/transmission was on a 45 degree angle in engine compartment, but the passenger compartment held up very well, with slight buckling in roof and rocker panel/floor. When you consider the forces in a head on collision with a pickup; VERY STRONG CAR!!
