This car would be a good car, but it has problems.
1st the battery; all of a sudden the battery was dead overnight. Had it checked, battery good, charging system good.
Now having brake problems, electrical problems, interior lights, visor mirrors, rear view mirror and rear seat reading lamps, trunk light shorted out, poor factory assembly inspection. If it weren't for the fuses, I'd be afraid to use the car for fear of wires burning. Now I have to get this wiring problem fixed.
I could go on, but there's too much to list. Will never buy an Impala, Monte, Caprice 2006, SS or not, and it makes me wonder about other GM products!

My 2006 Impala has steering problems. The pump went earlier this month. Now I am told that a "power assist rack" has a problem. A regulator of some sort went, and the entire assembly has to be purchased. I am looking at $600 on top of the $300 repair for the pump. Has anyone else heard of this? When it is not working, the wheel turns like an old truck and there is a low whine.

I lease a 2006 Impala and have never had any problems out of this car until now. My battery went dead, the headlights will no shut off, and I keep hearing this popping noise in the steering wheel. I will never get a GM car again.

I have an 06' Impala, and yesterday it wouldn't cut on, so I called for a jump and a semi came. It started right up.
Later I took it to Auto Zone and got the electricals checked. After I got it checked, it wouldn't turn over again. Stuck at Auto Zone, I called a friend and he tried to jump me with an 72' Chevelle with a 455, and couldn't jump me right, so I got under it and tapped the starter, and it turned right over. But the machine at Auto Zone told me it was the battery. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a 2006 Impala, purchased used with 12K miles, and purchased the extended warranty. I've been experiencing the same problems that are posted on this site.
1. Transmission shifting very hard, but only occasionally; no real pattern or situation.
2. High pitched screeching of the driver's side window when it's rolling down.
3. Service Tire Monitor System alert comes on all the time, particularly when I'm driving on the highway. This occurs even if I've just had the tires checked and know that all tires are inflated at the correct pressure.
4. My remote starter's reach has been slowly decreasing. I plan to replace the battery inside the hand held remote and hope that improves performance.
5. The steering column groans and pops every time I drive it.
Ironically, this is one of the most comfortable cars I've ever owned, even compared to my Cadillac Catera. But, I'm beginning to be afraid to drive it, especially when I have my grand daughter buckled into the back seat. I drive the Interstate weekly, and am afraid we'll end up stranded on some dark stretch of highway.
Does anyone have a website address which lists 2006 Impala recalls?

"Does anyone have a website address which lists 2006 Impala recalls?"
An easy way to find stuff like that is go to Google.com, search on "Impala TSB" and you get a list of websites. The first one I picked out was www.carcomplaints.com and I saw it had two recalls listed.
Sorry you're having problems with your Impala. They are my favorite rental when I travel.

I leased a 2006 Impala LS in December 2005. This car has been the most trouble free of any I've owned in over 60 years of driving. The only "problem" I had was a faulty vent solenoid which was causing the SES light to come on. Aside from that problem, the car's performance has been faultless. (I do hear a slight ticking sound when the engine is idling but I've decided to ignore that).
I will buy the car after the lease has expired.

Wow, I can't believe I have many of the problems listed on this site. I have a 2006 Impala that I have on lease and Thank God it's a lease. I have many of the same problems listed. I have had electric problems that took over a week to fix because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, dead batteries, popping sound coming from the dashboard, the squeaky driver side window. Had to replace all 4 tires at 25,000 miles. Now I noticed that there is something wrong with my windshield washer fluid leaking. Oh also my onstar doesn't work after the electrical problem. And I will definitely be turning in this lease when its up.

Well all the problems that are listed here I've had, but not only that; my 06 Impala LS had an electrical issue on the fuse box while driving on the freeway, and yes my car caught on fire. The entire front end of the car was gone, but my retarded insurance decided to fix it. It took approx. 4 months to get it back.
Now I am having the problem that when I don't have a passenger, it shows that the front airbag is on. I am sick and tired of all these problems. I am just waiting to get my house, and afterwards I am calling the bank to come pick it up. If not I am changing it for a Honda or something else. It was a waste of time and all the money I put in it just to customize the car.

I also have a 2006 Impala LTZ.
I think this is the worst car I have ever owned.
I am currently looking to trade it in on a Mazda 6.
The car is worth about $3000.00 less than what I owe on it.
I don't to be stuck with a payment plus fixing it on top of the payment. The noisy steering is due to a sheath that covers the steering column assembly. Replacing this sheath fixes the noise.

I have a 2006 Impala LS with 80,000 miles. It's been good to me except yesterday it was raining and it started driving rough. What advice can anyone give me? I love my car.

I bought a 2006 in Nov. of 06 with 13,000 miles on it. It is a LS with a 3.5, lots of power, overall nice car.
Had the power steering hose blow off with 17000. The dealer just put the worm type clamps on the hose and a new pump under warranty.
The squeaky window was cured with replacing the outer rubber strip on top of the door.
Dealer replaced the right side outer tie rod and CV joint at 32000 miles.
The remote start sucks.
The tranny slips and shifts hard from reverse to drive, even though it has been "retrained" several times by the dealer.
The front brakes overheat and shimmy when going down a long hill. I cured that problem with drilled and slotted front rotors.
My dad just bought a new Ford Fusion Hybrid, it's really a great running awesome handling and comfortable car. Goodbye GM, hello Ford.

I own a 2006 Impala LT v6 that's at 50k, and I am experiencing some of the same problems as most of the others; heat blows cold air, drivers side window making a loud noise, and my new problem, my trunk will not release with or without the remote.
