2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

A good, reliable car, for the money

Faults:

Rotor warpage occurring after tire rotations and wheel balancing. Have dealer check lug nut torque with a torque wrench as impact wrenches are not calibrated and will over-tighten.

Hazard switch failed and caused intermittent turn signal operation. This was repaired under warranty and was a recall item. The repair took 30 minutes and problem has not returned.

Climate control switch malfunctioned where the symbol for floor vent would be defrost, etc. Replaced control unit under warranty and problem has not returned after 2 years.

General Comments:

This car has been extremely reliable and low cost to operate.

Gas mileage is excellent to where I calculated better than 30 MPG on the highway.

Reliability has been very good, and only minor items have occurred which were fixed under warranty. This car has been more reliable that the 1990 Camry DX we used to own.

The interior is comfortable and has held up well.

The exterior is immaculate and no rust or blemishes have shown up.

2000 Chevrolet Malibu Sedan 3.1L V6 from North America

Summary:

I would get a Malibu over and over again

Faults:

I previously owned a 1993 Toyota Tercel and boy was that the biggest piece of useless metal I ever got. I sold that car and got my 2000 Malibu. I have no complaints with it, I drive like crazy and it keeps up with me.

I had to replace my front rotors because they warped, and had to dry the ignition coil, but that was after I drove into a flood.

My check engine light is on, but I understand that's due to a faulty fuel filter common in these models.

General Comments:

Overall I get the best mileage from all vehicles I have asked about, roughly 22 miles per gallon. With gas prices going up, I am glad I spend what I spend and not what others do.

2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS 3.1L V6 from North America

Summary:

Good car, but cross your fingers

Faults:

My car surges (Rpm's up and down) when idoling on a hot engine.

Hesitation when I gradually increase speed. I have it in the shop getting the fuel pump looked at.

Noise and vibration in the front wheels when braking.

General Comments:

I bought a used car, OK, that doesn't mean within two weeks it should be in the dealerships service department having work done on it. GM Certified Used Cars, does that really mean anything?

Or do they expect me to wait until it needs towing before they need to fix it?

Other than the above listed items, my car is very nice.

I have the same problems with my brakes. Lots of noise, vibration when braking, especially at highway speeds. took it back to the dealer and they said there was rust buildup on the rotors, that they could re-surface them, but it is not covered by my extended warranty. This is months after I bought it! Also had problems with the heating/AC, and car stalling on me. Overall I am not happy with the car.

2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS 3.1 V6 from Mexico

Summary:

Great Value, Great Car. Reliable

Faults:

Just a few minor details went wrong, nothing important, first the wiper's reservoir tank leaks and I have to refill it every week.

The CD stereo was replaced under warranty because it kept displaying an "error" message, but GM replaced it.

On a hot summer day once the coolant's reservoir tank spilled over half the coolant's liquid, I just refilled it with regular Prestone liquid and it never happened again. It happened only once 1 year ago.

I had to replace the battery 2 years ago because the positive pole was broken, I can't tell how that happened, but can't blame it on GM, maybe on a routine manteinance came loose.

The rear bumper is very strong, last year while going in reverse I accidentally crashed at low speed a VW bug sedan, the VW door and fender was completely smashed as if it was made of paper unlike my rear bumper was nearly intact, you can't tell it crashed ever, my insurance company paid the VW owner, but I'm amazed how well my Malibu did hold together.

Overall this car works great.

General Comments:

Great car, Great Value. I love my Malibu.

It always works, I never have to worry about having any kind of mechanical problems, it's very reliable.

The front seats are comfortable, the back seat is not so comfortable, but the interior space is huge for a car of its class.

The suspension feels like you're floating on air compared to Dodge Stratus. Very comfortable ride.

I really liked this car.

I'm saving to buy a 2005 Malibu.
