I wished I had known about the many problems with the Chevy Malibu before I purchased one.
I own a 2000 Malibu, bought it brand new. From the time of purchase to now, this car has brought me nothing but problems.
The cooling system is a joke. General Motors should be held accountable for this piece of junk. I will never purchase another GM car.
Buyer beware; don't believe the hype about these new Malibus, because you could be stuck with a lemon.
I had to have another engine replaced because of that pink antifreeze they tell you to use along, with other things going wrong that were not normal wear and tear.

I too own a 2000 Chevy Malibu LS and I only had this car for 5 months and it's already giving me a headache.
I have never once seen a car whose gas pedal or gas pedal cable breaks! I just drove the car down the road and back! OMG. Also I just bought brand new rotors and got ceramic brakes and already I need new ones, even though I just purchased them in May! When I press the brake pedal it makes a squeaking noise, my cooling fans come on when they get ready, and air doesn't even work on the low settings. It works better when it's off. Even I know this car is a piece of glorified junk.

Today is May 2002,my 2000 Malibu has 56,000 miles. Overall am satisfied with it, however, the front brake disk warp!
The dealer changed my front disk, pads etc at 12,000, 24,000,37,000 and now again they are warped. Car "shimmies" when I apply brakes on warped disk. I am a mature driver, don't slam on brakes, anticipate stops and slow down before I apply the brakes. Has any one else had this problem? How did you fix it? nlsmt@yahoo.com.
