1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS 3.1L V6 from North America

Summary:

White beauty

Faults:

I just got this car like a week and a half ago. When I purchased the car I didn't notice that the oil was bad. So the next day I go to take it in the get an oil change and they say that the car required specific coolant. The orange orange/pink stuff. So I had that flushed. When they tried to start the car it wouldn't start. I had it towed back to the dealership immediately. When the car got off of the tow truck it started right up and the dealership guys test drove it around the block, and said it was fine. I drive it for another day until it did the same thing while I was in the process of getting new tires. I had it towed AGAIN and they finally figured out that the module chip to the fuel pump was bad. Ever since, it has been okay.

The rear right shock absorber needs to be replaced.

The transmission shifts hard which kind of frightens me. Just thinking that it could possibly be going. I think I might have the trans. fluid changed and flushed this weekend. I heard that Lucas slip stuff helps it out a lot.

General Comments:

I love the car! its very sporty, pretty quick. Its very heavy though, I think GM should have just put the Z34 engine in all of them.

The sound system bumps like all new. I love listening to anything in it.

I like how it has the heater and AC temp's for both different sides. (driv. and pass.)

So far, I still like this car.

I just hope that this transmission doesn't have any serious problems in the near future.

1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34 3.4 DOHC V6 from North America

Summary:

The '96 Monte Carlo Z34 performs very well, and also looks great inside and out

Faults:

At 100,000 miles my rear brakes had to be replaced.

One of the rear struts creates a knocking noise, but only if it hits a bump hard enough.

An O-ring in the motor started leaking oil down into the belt housing which caused quite a mess.

The little door on the center console broke and had to be fixed.

General Comments:

Even though these problems have occurred, it does have over 100,000 miles on it. Wear and tear happens.

The car is very quick off the line, but top end speed seems to be limited a bit.

If you know what you're doing you can throw the car into a corner very hard and it'll stick so easily it's like it's saying "Give me more".

The exhaust note is unique and quite cool in fact.

The exterior always turns heads wherever I go and the interior always makes passengers of mine jealous.

Not many of you will believe me, but I have on numerous occasions made owners of RS and Z28 Camaros, Trans Am Firebirds, and Gt Mustang owners quite surprised at how fast this little Monte Carlo will go from one redlight to the next.

1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS 3.1 gasoline from North America

Summary:

Awesome reliable transportation with Excellent gas mileage

Faults:

Well, nothing that is really unexpected for a 9 year old car. However when I got it, a new heater core had to be installed.

General Comments:

This car has great power for such a little engine on such a big sized car.

Interior is probably one of the most comfortable 2 door car interiors I have ever traveled in.

This particular Monte Carlo has run through a HUGE puddle of water and the custom air intake caused it to take in water to the engine. However we flushed the the cylinders, changed the oil, put on 2 new spark plugs, and drained the gas tank, and the car came right out of it and has ran better than ever.
