2003 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 4x4 LS 5.3L Gas from North America

Summary:

OK truck with some issues

Faults:

Has 31K miles on it as of 3/06.

Squeak from the left front tire, which was replaced under warranty with new design isolators.

Whistle from the A/C and heater, which was replaced under warranty.

Fog Lamp broken, replaced under warranty.

Steering column felt loose, replaced intermediate steering shaft under warranty.

Rattling from windshield at higher speeds >50 mph, replaced windshield gaskets under warranty.

Slapping from the rear differential when changing gears, dealer told me it was normal.

General Comments:

Overall I think GM needs to re-think it's quality on a vehicle that is one of there most profitable. I have wanted a Chevy truck since I was three and now that I have one I am disappointed with it. I never thought I would be a Japanese truck, but the Titan doesn't look so bad.

2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab 4WD LT 6.6 turbo diesel from North America

Summary:

Great driving truck, nice way to travel, perfect for towing a heavy load

Faults:

Hydroboost pump went out in the first 10K miles, preventing power steering and brakes from working. Dealer gave me a rental and fixed under warranty, no problems since.

4WD pushbutton switch went out; replaced under warranty.

Now at 70K miles, rear axles seals leaking, parking brake doesn't hold, rear stereo controls / system doesn't turn on.

General Comments:

Overall, I am very happy with this truck. I have driven 70K miles on it in 3 years. The diesel is very smooth and quiet (relative to other diesels anyway). This engine really really loves pulling a load, either in the cargo box or pulling a trailer on the highway. It just purrs along when towing or loaded down.

The truck is a very comfortable traveling vehicle. The seats in the LT model fit me perfectly and the controls and features are as good as if not better than my Nissan Maxima SE and Toyota Sienna XLE.

In good weather I get 18 mpg driving back and forth to work (city/freeway) and about 21 on the highway (driving the speed limit).

I use all synthetic fluids (Mobil Delvac 1, Mobil 1 ATF, etc) so my maintenance costs are higher than average. I hope to keep this truck to 350K miles.

I agree, this truck travels on freeways and on back country roads very easily.

I only had one problem with mine... wheel bearing, but other than that the truck is VERY reliable... never had a check engine light come on in mine in the 91,000 miles.

2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD LT 6.6L turbo diesel V8 from North America

Summary:

This vehicle was a good truck that was hampered by the abuse of the original owner

Faults:

The vehicle appeared to have been abused by the previous

The windshield wiper controller went haywire at about 24000 miles. The windshield wipers would turn themselves on (high). The controller was replaced under warranty.

The windshield washer was plugged on the left side.

The doors leaked air/water. All seals were replaced under warranty, but the right front door showed evidence of being "tweaked". This was not able to be fixed without replacing the door.

There was a leak on the right rear - either the window or the roof.

General Comments:

We got this vehicle for a good price, but it had problems. Except for the windshield wiper controller, all the problems looked like they were due to the previous owner.

If I had a place to work on it, I think all problems could have been worked out, and it would make a good work truck. As it was, we decided to get a new truck when GM had their big sale.

This truck was great with a trailer! We hardly knew there was anything back there - even with a heavy load. It had plenty of power and was rock solid stable.

2003 Chevrolet Silverado SS 6.0 LQ9 High Output from North America

Summary:

Mean-looking practical pickup!

Faults:

Whine coming from All-Wheel-Drive unit. Haven't taken this to be checked out yet. However, this seems to be getting quieter with time.

General Comments:

Excellent sport pickup hands-down. The ride in this pickup is what was the selling point for me. It rides like a car, and handles like one too. The reason why I got this over the faster SVT and the V10 viper dodge was because I still wanted what I like to call practicality. This pickup can tow over 7,000 pounds with no issues and no complaints. The stereo is more than adequate, and the seats are nice and supportive. Even though this pickup was far more expensive over its competitors, I still think it is a good value if you are looking for something that will turn heads and stomp Mustangs.

As for performance... This pickup is wonderful in terms of power-to-spare. 0-60 in 6.3 seconds is plenty enough for a full-sized extended-cab pickup. The all-wheel-drive system is amazing on the pavement or off. The truck really shows off in sand. Only down side is you can't spin the tires, but drift-style driving is really fun!

As for economy... This pickup is not economical. it gets a consistent 14-16 mpg overall. The only thing that saves money is the GM Oil Life monitoring system that cuts down on changes. Another nice thing is that GM only recommends premium unleaded fuel. I have achieved satisfactory results using only regular.

Overall, this is a very satisfying and great looking truck. It has the refinements I would expect from Chevrolet, along with enough power to put a tingle in my gut and a smile on my face. Chevy's making a comeback!

I have thought about trading my Tahoe for onn of these. How does the ride compare to the Avalanche?
