1999 Ext. Cab Z71 Silverado 85,000 miles – Nor Cal.
Wow, misery does love company. My ABS went out today and is costing me $1,100 for the part and another $300 for the repair. BTW: It is a dealer only part. I called a friend in auto repair that has his own shop to see about getting a deal. No go because the dealer still wanted $1,100 for the part. In my case, the red brake light and ABS light came on during normal driving.

I am currently having some kind of transfer case problem at 170,000 miles on my 1999 Silverado 4X4. I had the drivers side window motor stop working right after the warranty ran out. I had to replace the transmission at about 90,000. The fuel gauge hasn't worked in years. The service engine light has been on for years. My ABS also went out at about 60,000 miles and I pulled the fuse. The reports on here sound like a broken record. I will go foreign from here on out.

I just traded in my 1st and last Chevy, a 1999 Silverado that had all the same problems listed here. (Transmission went @ 40,000, ABS soon after, brake linings, etc., etc.) I didn't get very much for it but at least it's gone. Wasn't doing me much good as it was so undependable. And we wonder why Americans are buying foreign vehicles! I bought a Hyundai Santa Fe and know it's covered for most problems.

Check out modulemaster.com. If you're lucky enough to have the only one of three that can be rebuilt, you can send it in for $150 instead of $1000.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone!
I have a 1999 Z71 4WD (old body style) that I bought new in Jan '99. It now has 149,000 miles. My ABS light recently came and I'm still troubleshooting. Same braking problem as mentioned by others. Low speed ABS feedback when applying brakes. Have found out when it happens, just stand on the pedal - it'll stop! Pulled the fuse today and will continue troubleshooting, I feel my problem lies in a wheel sensor.
Have replaced: front brake pads twice, both front wheel bearing assemblies, Upper ball joint (left side), rear brake shoes (once), Air conditioner, engine intake manifold gaskets, heater quick connect at the engine intake manifold, fuel pump (in fuel tank), water pump, on third battery, both door power lock solenoids, driver door inside handle, tail-gate straps, both front CV joint axles, all shocks, and power steering sensor module.
I still love my Z71 and faithfully change the fluids; I believe it'll last another 149,000 miles.

I have a 99 Z71 new body style. It clunks when it shifts gears, and sometimes it shifts hard, but if you turn it off and restart it, it shifts fine. If anyone knows what the problem is, let me know thanks.

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado, about 60000 to 70000 miles and of course out of warranty.
It's pathetic how many people are having the same issue and most of the vehicle on here are from 1999. You would have figured that after a few years someone who have said "hey we made a piece of crap part" guess not! Luckily the price has come down (as long as the shop ordered the right part $495) labor is $160, oh and lets not forget the initial $80 just to look at the vehicle, you would assume the shop would remove that cost if they did the work.
My father owns a FORD, still have original parts from 1994, his mechanic is still amazed, makes me think about wanting to buy a FORD next time. Lets face it, all products have faults but lets at least own up to them and FIX THEM, I hate to admit it but I love chevy truck and have owned Chevy and only Chevy since I was 14.
There are 113 entries on here, most regarding this issue ranging from 8/4/2002 to NOW!!! Call 1-800-222-1020 and complain, if this is still the same number. If a part is only going to last a certain amount of time, why not have a better warranty on it. If you told me my engine would only last me 70000 miles and give me a 60000 mile warranty, where do you think I am going to tell you to go.

This ABS noise happened to my 1999 Silverado truck and I would like to just pull the fuse but I don't know how to find the fuse. Can somebody tell me exactly where it is? If there is more than one fuse located in the same spot, do you know how I can tell which one to pull? Thank you to anyone that can help me! I am just a non-mechanical female that is desperate! I am afraid my battery will die. Thank you in advance for any help!!!

I just fix my 2001 Tahoe ABS module by using modulemaster.com.
Two weeks ago the ABS light came on and turned it off, and still heard a motor running. Drove it home and the motor noise was still running. Found out it was the ABS module, so disconnected the battery. Did some research, and the dealers wanted $740 to $960 for a new part.
Then I found Modulemaster web site. After following their instructions of just taking the 4 bolts out and disconnecting the cables, the module came right off. Sent it to Modulemaster, they received it on Monday, and it was sent back to me on Wednesday that same week. Got it on Friday, and just took 20 minutes to install again, and everything worked just fine. Would recommend them to anyone having an ABS module issue. Total cost was $130 for the repair and shipping. Way better than the dealer price.

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 2WD and I am tempted to say it's the best truck I've ever owned. It has 215000 miles and I still drive it everyday. I bought it used with 36K. To date I've replaced the transmission twice and the fuel pump once.
Recently had a problem with the parking brake; I was in an accident where I blew a tire (front driver's side) and somehow the upper parking brake cable (the one that connects to the pedal) snapped. Although I hit a concrete median at 65mph, that shouldn't have put any tension whatsoever on the parking brake. Anyone else have problems with their parking brake? Email me at dchwilson@msn.com

Wow, I did not realize this was such a widespread problem. I own a 2001 Silverado 1500 with the same ABS pump issue, and as have many others, have pulled the fuse to avoid the $1000 repair bill. I'm very disappointed with GM for ignoring such an issue. My truck is in next to new condition but because of this issue will not pass for inspection. Come on GM how about a little help...
