Chevy has had the 4.3 liter V6 since 1985 or 1986 and even the carburated version was called Vortec.

I have a 1993 Chevy c1500 v6 4.3L and it too is a Vortec... three years later they came out with a Vortec generation 2... if your V.I.N has a letter Z for the 8th digit then it is a Vortec (1995 and earlier models)

I own a 1994 k1500 Chevy Silverado. It is throttle body fuel-injected and with a 5.7 V8 puts out over 200 horse power. My friend on the other hand has a 1996 GMC Sierra with a 5.7 V8, which is a vortex motor, and my Silverado puts out more horses because I have dual straights, so I don't think the vortec\x has added a lot of power to the truck.

I love my 1994 chevy silverado 4.3. it's 15 years old pushing 300,000 and runs like new. I live in the hills of TN and drive 130 miles a day. I get just about 20.1 mpg. I have a flat cap that covers the bed so that helps with mpg. I hope me and old blue keep run for years to come.

All in all...good comments about the VORTEC 4.3 V6...Hope I am as lucky as the other commentators with the new Silverado 2009 WT 1500 LS I just bought. Thanks...Kentucky/Like a Rock!

I have a 1994 S10 Blazer. It has 190K, Vin = (W) = Vortec 4.3 200HP engine. The truck runs great, I did have to replace the spiders web looking injector at about 160K, other than that the truck runs great. Sport.

Actually Chevy did make a vortec before 96 I know for a fact that some '94 blazers had a 4.3 vortec that put out 200 hp. Not sure about full size, but the s10's did have a vortec. Just correcting ya :)
