1999 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 5.7L V8 FI from North America

Summary:

GREAT CAR!

Faults:

While still under warranty the Anti Lock Brake light came on, and the Sun visor and center console door needed to be replaced due to plastic parts breaking.

Front Brake pads (normal wear)

Tail light bulb.

One of the original Tires blew out on the highway at about 50,000 miles.

General Comments:

I love this car, except for its gas guzzling.

The Tahoe is wonderful car for long trips very comfortable.

Excellent visibility.

Handles bad weather with ease... Drove 200 miles during one snow storm that was sending most others to hotels for the day.

I've been reading some of the negative reviews on this car, and I just wanted to post a postive one. I follow suggested maintenance for the car, and have had no significant problems to date. The 99 Tahoe is a good example of a well made American Car.

1999 Chevrolet Tahoe 5.7 liter from North America

Summary:

I would buy another one..

Faults:

Well, up until this week, everything has been smooth sailing. Then, I began to smell something "sweet" after I would drive. Well, to my surprise, it was a coolant leak. I was not able to find the exact place of the leak, so I replaced a few hoses and the thermostat, hoping that maybe the o-ring was worn. However, I have come to find out that it is the intake gasket. After reading the other comments on the site, I see that it is a common problem. I will be getting it fixed asap.

General Comments:

I like the vehicle. It really is in good condition being a used purchase. I would recommend to someone needing extra room. Since it was used, I went ahead and replace the brakes, rotors, and callipers and also the alternator. That is not to say that any of those things had problems, but driving the vehicle with my kids around just makes me feel safe. I think it is a sounds investment and gives this mechanic chick something to do.. although the intake will cost about 1000.00 in parts and labor, its well worth it...

1999 Chevrolet Tahoe from North America

Summary:

The Chevy tahoe is a good rig and I like mine more everytime I drive it

Faults:

I bought my 99' Tahoe in 05'. I bought it with 82,000 miles on it. It now has 107,000 miles. The fuel pump went out. I talked to a local mechanic in town and told me that the cost of purchase and repair will be $1,100.00! I've never laughed so hard in my life. I went and bought a fuel pump and replaced it myself in 2 days for $130.00. Replacing it yourself sucks, but I have more money now and I know how to change the pump. My lights for the radio have begun to go out too. I'm not going to pay the deductible to get the lights fixed. I'm just going to get a new stereo because it's better and cheaper. My O2 sensor went out and replaced that for $90.00. One of the spark plugs that I was replacing broke in half in my hand when I swapped it out. I replaced all of the plugs for 20 more bucks. These are problems that are inherent to any vehicle of any make. I'm proud of Chevrolet and their products. Its hard to make stuff perfect for every person that buys them.

Congrats on a great vehicle and for being able to do your own repairs. It DOES save a bundle. I seldom take mine in for anything I can do myself. We love GM cars and trucks (though my current truck is a Ford). My wife loves her Envoy, and my old Pontiac runs as good as the day it was built (and looks that good too). GM builds some really great, reliable vehicles.

If you have the correct tools you can work on just about anything with a little know how. That's awesome you saved money a lot of money, but how did you figure out how to change your fuel pump? Nice work though.

The lights in the radio are very simple to replace if you have basic soldering skills. The bulbs can be purchased at Radio Shack, I can't remember the part number but they are small incandescent bulbs and are around $1.50 each.
