2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer from North America

Summary:

OK

Faults:

Electric fan clutch problem. Check your positive and negative cables on the battery as it might be a loose connection. Mine was making the fan takeoff noise and I found out through troubleshooting that my positive battery cable had loosened up. Torqued to specs and all electrical problems are gone for 15,000 miles now. I am an Industrial Electrical Tech. Good luck.

General Comments:

Good vehicle, but expensive repairs.

2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer from North America

Summary:

I'm starting to question my choice of an American made car

Faults:

I have a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. I purchased it in 2005. Since my purchase, I have been hearing the same jet engine sound on and off. Recently, my A/C stopped working properly and the jet engine sound is even more obvious and more consistent.

The weird thing is, the A/C cools fine; however, when I'm in park, and I turn on the A/C it's as if all the power from the engine is being sucked up, and it either comes close to turning off, and several times has turned off.

As long as I don't turn the A/C on, the truck runs fine, except for the occasional jet engine sound.

So would fixing the fan clutch fix the A/C problem and the jet engine sound as well?

General Comments:

I like my TB, but after reading all the concerns about the fan clutch and A/C problems on several websites, I'm now beginning to question why I bought this truck knowing I've been warned about American made vehicles.

Does anyone know if GM has done a recall?

In another website, I found that someone won a class action law suite against GM for the same problems and they won the case under the Lemon Law. So why hasn't anyone heard of a recall yet?

2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT inline 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Excellent vehicle

Faults:

My 2002 Trailblazer with 89,000 miles developed the well documented problem with the fan clutch. Since the car was at the dealership to check for the recall item regarding the fuel tank, I had them replace the fan clutch in July. I have a GEICO extended warranty so cost is not an issue yet. Failed again in August, they replaced at no charge. Failed again this week, going back tomorrow for third time. Anyone else having problem with multiple failure of the fan clutch? Water pump was also replaced, so that's not it. Any information on a recall or better fix? I have owned the vehicle since it was new and have had no other significant issues. Great vehicle unless this can't be taken care of.

I purchased my 2002 Trailblazer EXT new and the only real problem I had with the vehicle was having to replace the electronic ignition on 2 occasions.

We have owned our 2002 EXT Trailblazer since it was new also. We have 109,000 miles on it and I just replaced the spark plugs for the first time. The only problem I could not get resolved was the drivers side headlight harness melting. This happened to us 3 times within a years time. I finally replaced both headlight assemblies with after market ones. At about 105,000 I had to replace the fan clutch assembly. These are the only problems we have had with our trailblazer and with the cost of new vehicles will probably run it for another 100,000 miles. It is great for long trips with the built in DVD system.
