We've had our 2000 Venture for 4 years, and have had the following problems: both front windows stopped working; idiot lights take turns staying on; transmission is shot. At 100k, almost to the mile, the tranny finally gave up. It had been hard shifting, inconsistently, much like other entries have mentioned. I changed fluid and filter, kept checking it, but it kept doing it just once in a while. I thought it was an electrical issue, but my mechanic tells me the transmission is "done."

I bought a 2001 Venture brand new and never had an issue with it until recently. It has started to hesitate under slight acceleration. At first I thought it was the fuel system so I had the fuel injectors cleaned and replaced the fuel filter. It still hesitates on occasion. It has 60k on it and never had a problem up this point. Now that I am reading the issues with the tranny's I am starting to worry the tranny will go soon. Now that I am thinking about it, I hauled a very very heavy trailer for 500 miles last year and within a couple of months I started to feel the hesitation. The load I towed was heavier than recommended by Chevy so I guess this is my fault.
I am reading a lot of bad accounts here on this page. If it makes you guys feel any better I used to hate Chevy, but bought one since it was 2/3 the cost of the competing Honda and Toyota. It has been a good vehicle. In fact it has been great up to now. My family has purchased all sorts of vehicles foreign and domestic and I have to say the biggest piles of crap are built by Nissan hands down.
Good luck.

Wow, I have a 1998 Venture, with 178,000 miles on it. I have had no problems, but those regular annoying minor things.. power window, locks and door all work when they want to and don't when you want them to... other than that I am still happy as a clam with my van!
I have replaced the brake maybe every 3 years, tires every 2, not sure the last time I had to replace the battery. Just regular maintenance things.

I just got a 1999 Chevy Venture LS only about 6 days ago. I drove it home from where I bought it, and it started chugging on the interstate.
The "quirks" that I have noticed that are quite similar to everybody else on here; the airbag light stays on, the wipers are all messed up (they stay open when on delay), the service engine soon lights comes on and off, and the fuel gauge goes crazy so I filled it and been watching my mileage.
Oh, the automatic sliding door closes then opens back up, so I stand there trying to get it closed about 5 to 10 times.
It shimmies when I slow down; the alignment is off.
Just today while driving to work, it started hard shifting and whining. Took it to a tranny shop, showed a code, guy said most likely it will have to be overhauled.
Oh, another thing, when I turn into a parking spot and try to turn the steering wheel back, it's REALLY hard to turn. I called the dealer today and I'm getting my money back. This is ridiculous!

I bought a used Chevy Venture a few months ago. It's a 2000. It's a nice van let me tell you. Built in car seats, roof racks, the CD player in it is really nice. I haven't had any problems with it. It runs like a beauty.
It has a 120,000 miles on it and she's still going. I haven't needed any serious work on it. When I first got it and drove off the lot, about half way home my service engine light came on.. the guy fixed it. Then it happened again... well this time I fixed it. There was a loose plug under the hood; it just needed to be put back on.
The only thing that doesn't work in my car, is on the driver's side; the unlock button doesn't work. The lock does, but not the unlock.
Other than that, I think it's a nice, safe and good vehicle.

More Bad News, I have 127K on miles on my 2000 Venture so far I have replaced, resistor for blower fan, alternator, water pump, power steering pump, drive belt every 10k miles, 4 batteries, both front axles, right one replaced 3 times, tie rods, both front wheel bearings at a cost of 125 each, cooling fan, cooling sensor and relay, 3 sets of 100k plugs. front brakes 3 times, left brake caliper, both front power windows won't work, intake gasket, transmission rebuilt at 89K, Fuel guage reads every amount, but the right one. I have left out a lot of other things to small to mention. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT. I have spent over 4500 in repairs.

I purchased my 2000 Chevy Venture Warner Brothers edition back in Oct of 2007... I really did love my van at first... it is very roomy and comfortable... it had 150, 000 miles when I got it... the first week or so was great, then trouble started.
First the audio video module went out... then my rear defogger quit working...
My service engine soon light came on...
The idiot reminder sounds for the gas and seatbelt no longer work...
The airbag light stays on...
The CD player quit working...
My lights flicker...
The van as far as the comfort is great... but the electricals scare me.

I have a Chevy Van 1999, I have trouble with the transmission, also my idiot lights keep coming on, I really don't know when something is wrong.
Does anyone have a problem with the paint coming off on the hood, there isn't any rust just metal.
My tail lights, directional lights and headlights are all messed up. The directional lights both come on at the same time, parking lights work when they want, head light go out and we have replaced the bulbs.
The side door works when it wants to and so on.
I do the like the van, but with all the problems I will never buy one again...

I have of course had many of the same problems with my 2000 Venture LS.
With power windows not working, the copper contacts in the switch on the drivers door build up black deposits that keep it from getting a good contact. It pops right out, and with careful cleaning can be easily fixed.
With the windows going up crooked and not sealing, I put some white lithium grease in the track and it works for about a week, then I spray some more.
As far as the transmission goes,I am on my third tranny and torque converter, 2nd valve body, and about to go back again. The code it has been giving is "TCC stuck open". I guess I'll try to figure out what that is, but I definitely think it is electrical. Save your money on a new tranny, the diagnosis is always to get a new one. I bought one with a lifetime warranty, so the only reason I know about that code is the guy is tired of seeing that P.O.S.
Good luck everyone.

We bought a 2000 Venture WB edition brand new. It has had about all the other problems above, except for the transmission. I changed the trans fluid and filter after the first 10,000 miles and then every 60k after that. I think that is why we have 142,000 and the engine and trans runs great. I think the van is falling apart around the engine, but it still gets us where we want to go. It has been expensive keeping it up, but compared to $30,000 for a new rig it has been worth it. I have never had a problem out of my Nissan. And just bought a 2007 Toyota Tundra. I am glad that Toyota beat out GM this year.
