Good point, you don't want to have a fire hazard camping in a forest that could potentially destroy the "trees" that you can plug the vehicle into.

27th Jan 2021, 19:25

Our camping is at a nice hotel. Do drive throughs in state parks and beach area. We do not “camp”.

1st Feb 2021, 03:25

Drive what you like, but don't knock til you drive or own first hand.

3rd Feb 2021, 18:10

Get many vehicles under your belt to compare every aspect. Besides cost. Compact to Luxury. And current too, not 20 plus year olds only.

5th Feb 2021, 22:40

Again - not sure why I keep getting told to buy a Jeep. Personally I think everything Chrysler makes is junk. We are on the other hand eyeing a new Toyota Rav4 plugin: 42 miles electric, a further 350+ on gas. Best of both worlds. I win...

6th Feb 2021, 19:11

When you take a RAV4 off road and need to call a Jeep to tow you out of your predicament, you’ll understand.

7th Feb 2021, 14:48

That's what AAA is for. They don't use Jeeps. Flat bed wreckers do the job.

8th Feb 2021, 12:34

He doesn’t care. Just enjoy what you have.

8th Feb 2021, 15:40

Seems to be a no win situation when the Jeep guy has the attitude of if you don't drive what he drives you are in the wrong.

8th Feb 2021, 20:28

Not true when you have 5 vehicles to choose. Not a Toyota fixation.

9th Feb 2021, 05:14

The point is the RAV4 would get stuck in places a Jeep could traverse easily. A Jeep wouldn’t need to be towed at all.

9th Feb 2021, 18:08

Really? I used to drive a tow truck and winched a few Jeeps out of the "terrain", not to mention towing the many that broke down or died while driving

9th Feb 2021, 23:05

youtube.com/watch?v=sSGETXOhdas

Think this rebuts your assertion of a Jeep that would never need to be towed.

Good thing this guy's buddies were there to help him out eh?

10th Feb 2021, 23:56

Taking probably hours to find even one video about a Jeep in distress doesn’t prove anything. They’re the kings of off-roading. Have been for 50+ years. Best of luck to you if you think a RAV4 or Subaru pick-up can go anywhere a Jeep can’t.

11th Feb 2021, 00:07

While you guys are fussing I will pass you all on KTM motorcycles. You will never go where I can.

11th Feb 2021, 13:34

Or use our 9000 lb winch to get out. Unless you put a Toyota in the exact same spot, how do you know you would be able to drive it right out? You know full well they get stuck. Some actually buy 4 wheel drives here for winter blizzards. Go to parks, maybe on the beach. Not extreme use. When you have 2 people that will never bend it's futile. Neither will change. A never ending, trying to justify their buying preferences. It’s better to focus on the 10 year old Volt. It’s only likelihood is finding a pothole vs venturing into ravines.

11th Feb 2021, 15:20

It's like somebody on here is a Jeep salesman that cannot take no for an answer.

11th Feb 2021, 19:03

Wrong, I am not a Jeep salesman. It’s not my favorite one anyway. Are you a Toyota parts counter guy? We have other brands too.

11th Feb 2021, 23:07

OK.

First: it took less than 30 seconds on a YouTube search to find that video. Not hours.

Second: If that Jeep was in what you called distress, how does it not prove anything? This was a reply to the previous comment (yours perhaps?) that a Jeep wouldn't need to be towed at all. If the video to you doesn't prove it, then I don't know what does. Also I'm sure it's not the only Jeep to be in "distress" as not everyone in the situation would film it.

Third: I don't need the best of luck to think a RAV-4 or Subaru pick-up can go anywhere a Jeep can't seeing how I'm not the one who posted the comment in the first place.

The Jeep by far would out perform both. I myself wouldn't take any of them off roading including a Jeep.

I would take (my preference and opinion of course) an old school full-size Blazer or full-size Bronco. They can do the same as and are more reliable than a Jeep old and especially new now that the straight six is gone.

Anyhow this is getting tiresome and should have never been on topic this long. All because somebody recommended a "fantastic" Jeep Rubicon to the reviewer who obviously is not in the least interested in replacing their Volt with one.

I actually can't wait to see what off topic discussion is going to come about the next time the author posts an update on his Volt. Let's wait and see and in the meantime let this one go.

12th Feb 2021, 17:23

Why do you continue to recommend it if it's not your favorite? Maybe a Porsche?

12th Feb 2021, 18:45

Showing a Jeep stuck in a spot literally no vehicle could get out of is what doesn’t prove anything. If there’s no alternative better equipped than the Jeep (i.e. prove a Hummer or S-10 Blazer could get out of the time spot) that doesn’t dispel the notion that the Jeep is still the king of off roading.

12th Feb 2021, 20:45

The vehicle is being towed out of the muddy ditch. It may not be tow truck assistance, but is still being towed. How does it not prove anything?

13th Feb 2021, 14:34

Again, the point was the Jeep is the king of off-roading. It can go places other vehicles can’t, and other vehicles can’t go places it can. Showing somewhere no vehicle can go doesn’t prove anything. If a truck has a huge lift & has the best clearance of any vehicle, does it prove anything to see it being towed from the ocean if someone drives into it? No. It still has the best clearance of any vehicle even if it couldn’t clear 10 ft of water after driving in. Literally no other truck could do that either, so it does nothing at all to prove the high clearance truck doesn’t have the best clearance. Same thing here.

13th Feb 2021, 15:12

It’s simple, all the cars you own at the moment cannot be number 1. Lastly, why do you care? Good luck with finding your new camping vehicle. Pick what you like and don't take recommendations. It’s going to come down to dollar and cents. Even with spectacular alternatives. We will live.

13th Feb 2021, 17:46

True, but in the end it is still being towed when you declared it would never need to be. Yes that is a very sticky spot the Jeep is stuck in, but still being towed.

Not sure that any vehicle would not be able to get out of there, possibly a monster truck like the "Gravedigger" or "Bigfoot" would have a chance maybe? What do you think?

13th Feb 2021, 18:46

Do you have a link showing a RAV4 or Subaru pick-up driving through that mud pit? Until you do, it doesn’t effectively combat the other comment about the Jeep.

14th Feb 2021, 18:19

I posted 18:08 on Feb. 9th.

The video from 23:07 maybe far fetched as that Jeep is in a bad spot that no other 4x4 could get out of, but yes, it's still being towed and I get it. Take a deep breath about it. As I mentioned in my original comment, I used to drive for a towing company all hours of the day and night in southeast Florida, with the Everglades just minutes away driving west.

Lots of outdoor activities including off roading were common practices. Like I said there were times that a Jeep needed assistance in much easier situations as opposed to that video. Funny that Hummer was mentioned as I've also rescued a couple of those, you name it, even custom fabricated swamp buggies.

Now I'm sure there will be a reply that a random person on Carsurvey who claimed to be a tow truck driver doesn't prove anything either. Feel free if you must.
