1999 Chrysler Intrepid 2.7 from North America
Summary:
The timing chain will blow and your bill for the damage it causes will be through the roof
Faults:
The timing chain broke and blew 12 pistons.
General Comments:
This is the worst vehicle problem I have ever had. The shop cost was so expensive that it would have been cheaper for me to blow it up and drive my car that is valued at $1,000 because it is more reliable.
I have noticed that a lot of people have had exactly the same problem and I believe something serious should be done in regards to this engine problem.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I really like the comment about the 12 pistons. I have a 1999 Platinum Es Intrepid and I love this car. I also take very good car of this car.

Oh, this is terrible. Another example of someone who knows nothing about cars getting hosed by a mechanic, and then blaming the manufacturer for making an expensive to repair piece of junk. I swear that half the angry comments on this site should be directed at the crooked mechanic/dealer rather than the auto maker.

What the original reviewer probably meant to write was 12 VALVES were damaged when the timing chain broke.

I had a 2.7 Intrepid 1999 that died recently at 367000.
Now 367000 with a 2.7, that's extremely good, so I purchased a 3.2l Intrepid for $980 dollars; what a steal... I am an Intrepid patriot... Dodge I've got your back.
If you get any Intrepid 2.7, 3.2...take care of it, it won't let you down.
Synthetic oil, the best tranny flush, oil flushes, bring your own when you get your own oil change, because our engines are delicate..
Keep on top of it and it will run more than 100%... for the real Intrepid lovers... enjoy your drive!!
