1987 Chrysler LeBaron Sedan 2.2 from North America

Summary:

It is definitely worth buying if you can get one in decent shape

Faults:

The only problems with my car are routine problems. I run my car a little hard being a teenager, so

I have to replace the brakes a little more often than usual. The only other problem is the wrist pin, which I've heard breaks in all the Le Barons. All it does it decrease the power a little.

General Comments:

This car is a great little car. It will get up and go, it just takes a little while to get there. It handles very well. It lacks a big engine so it is hard to spin the tires or mess around, but it will move. The interior is very comfortable and is still in great shape. The only problem on the inside is that my dome light doesn't light up when I open the driver door.

I have the same car and I agree completely with this person. The reason I don't have this car now is because the wrist pin went and for ten years it was rubbing in the sleeve. A piston finally went and it was running on three cylinders.

1987 Chrysler LeBaron from North America

Summary:

An ego-crushing grocery-getter

Faults:

Digital dashboard suddenly and mysteriously goes out from time to time.

No reading on the odometer.

The car shakes a lot, especially when it is shifted into reverse.

The car stalls easily when the gas tank is less than half full.

General Comments:

This car does not have much power.

The car has good steering; it handles corners very nicely.

The interior is surprisingly comfortable, although small.

1987 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible Base 2.5 Liter I4 from North America

Summary:

A stylish, economical convertible

Faults:

Bought the car with a loose steering rack which caused poor steering and a bad alignment. Fixed.

Car came to me with a VERY worn suspension. Replaced shocks and struts at all corners. Springs still need work.

TBI Fuel system lags at times making the car slower just after startup. Once the car is warmed, acceleration improves.

Convertible top is prone to ripping at stress points. It needed to be stitched and will be replaced next summer for somewhere in the ballpark of $500.

General Comments:

These cars were stylishly redesigned for the 1987 model year. The car has a nice profile at all angles.

Fuel economy is decent in the Normally-Aspirated engines. I get 22/28 mpg. There is a noticeable lack in power, however.

The features are nice in this car. Digital dash, power windows/top, trip computer, decent climate control, etc.

Handling is good although I think the frame could use to be strengthened. Ride comfort is very bad on this car, even with new components.

1987 Chrysler LeBaron Town and Country 2.5 L from North America

Faults:

The fuel injection has been a constant problem!!!!!!!! I have spent over $200 a month on the average for the last 7 months. Problems with the distributor sending RPM, computer, all sorts of problems. Won't start below 10 F unless block heater used. Bad windows, come out of track and make lots of noise!

General Comments:

Other than the noted problems I like this car, very invisible - little old lady car, go fast past cops and they don't notice. No rust yet, and thats good for Southern Wisconsin. 150K miles. Dealers for the most part are useless and very expensive for the mystery fuel injection problems.
