1999 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JX 2.5 from North America

Summary:

This car was not worth the money

Faults:

I bought a 1999 Sebring Conv. new. I have had numerous problem in the 7 years I have had it.

It would miss so bad it wouldn't hardly run.

It had to have the many part in the front end replaced over and over again.

The frame that holds the top onto the body of the car broke in half on both sides.

The seal on the back window/top broke.

The rear defrost wires came off of the window.

The body of the car holds water.

The cruise control doesn't always work.

Sometimes the transmission shift like I've been hit from behind.

It clunks and bangs as it goes down the road.

It has a horrible shake like I am driving on flat tires.

General Comments:

I have put 5 to 6 thousand dollars in this car trying to fix it, but it seems to be the mystery car. It might run terrible for a day or a week, and then be the best car for a couple of months before it started acting up again.

I started out leasing this car, and went over the mileage so I had to keep it because the value dropped so much I was always 2 to 4 thousand upside down on what I owed. It took over 6 years to pay for it. I don't recommend a lease and I don't recommend Chrysler. They believe in bulletins not recalls, which means you pay for it, not them, even if it is a defect.

I won't buy another Chrysler, nor can I afford to.

1999 Chrysler Sebring Convertible LX 2.5L from North America

Summary:

Good to rent and have fun in, bad to own

Faults:

Oh, I have a love hate relationship with this car. What I have had problems with: the top doesn't lined up well, and is hard to close, had issues with transmission sensors several times, water under the seats, the windshield fluid holes are plugged up, the seat belts are twisted. The auto dim mirror stopped dimming once, the radio doesn't scan properly, stops short of the station even when the station is clear, both visor clips broke, the visor is so loose that it swings and hits me in the face when I turn corner, and the one thing that I hate the most is, one of the rear defrost tab came loose. When it did, I did not notice and I turned on the defroster, the glass started to heat up, it was actually red hot on that spot, and the glass shattered, it was a very cold night. Of course its not covered, and I had to pay $500 to get it fixed, even though they know that these things fall off. The glass broke because it fell off. If there is ever a recall because of it I can get reimbursed, but come on, we all know that that will never happen.

When it works well, I love it, when I have to take it in, which is too often, my stomach just gets snarled. Would not buy again, will never buy another Chrysler, EVER. Poor product, even worse customer service.

General Comments:

Fun to drive when it works.

Problem is, there are too many problems.

1999 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JXI 2.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

Excellent fun-in-the-sun automobile for the the average person

Faults:

Tie rod ends needed replacing at 67,000 miles.

Starter relay went out at 50,000 miles.

Replaced brakes and rotors at 55,000 miles.

Also cracked the vanity mirror on the driver's side, which is probably due to the design of the sun visors.

Doors make a nasty creaking sound when opened.

Other than standard maintenance, that's it.

General Comments:

This car is surprisingly big for a convertible, 2 adults and even 2 passengers fit comfortably in this car.

The interior has held up well, and the roof hasn't leaked at all, even in bad storms and thru car washes. Some parts in the interior feel very cheap, like the door trim and speaker grilles.

Infinity sound system flat out sounds awesome!!! Do not get one of these autos without it!!!

The steering is very vague on center, and the V6 has sufficient power, but it dosen't feel overly powerful at all so this car will not be confused with a sports car! The suspension soaks up bumps pretty good in this car too, which is different from the first years of this car.

My car's colors are dark metallic gray, black canvas top, and dark gray interior and is a downright good-looking vehicle, even if it is 5 years old.
