1991 Citroen AX GT 1.4 carb petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A little known rocket! Get one

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

A well quick, well handling buzz box.

True the Saxo is more up to date, but the VTR has nothing on the old AX GT, a good alternative to the more common Nova, Escort, Astra...

1991 Citroen AX GT 1.4 twin-choke carb from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Not much. Looked after, it goes superbly with minimal problems. Over three years replaced: a water hose, 2 exhaust down pipes, and THREE sets of front brakes. Tappets get a bit noisy at higher mileages, engine-oil treatment helps though. Never failed to start first time, except once from a flat battery.

General Comments:

Best value supermini for the money. Surprising how many fast cars it will keep up with or thrash. Low insurance, over 40mpg easily, comforts of e/windows and c/locking. Sounds fantastic with a 3" exhaust system. Brakes are prone to warping and understeer is standard in the wet. Looks great, the original alloys are not bad at all (if not corroded).

1991 Citroen AX GT 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Since I have had the car the following have been required:

New water pipes, new alternator, new starter, tracking done countless times, head skimmed due to warping, new brake caliper, 3 sets of door pins, handbrake cable etc

General Comments:

Fast car but very flimsy. Fun car to have and it looks good. Has plenty of electrics but very expensive to maintain. For the 14 inch alloys it's 65 pounds per tyre - ouch. Also parts are extortionate, Citroen quoted 137.5 pounds for an alternator PLUS fitting fee, also 120 pounds for an aluminium brake caliper.

I am driving an AX GTI, too. But one question, how were you able to fit an 2.0 turbo into this car?

I have an AX GTi, but it won't run; help! The car turns over, but isn't geting fuel. I've checked the pump, and it is working. I checked the fuel, and really that clicks but not getting any fuel.
