2005 Citroen Berlingo SX 1.9 turbo diesel from Spain

Summary:

I love my Citroen Berlingo, except for this fault

Faults:

Indicator/light stalk unit.

General Comments:

When indicating right, the indicator flashes twice and then stops, and then right away the headlight main beam comes on. Sometimes the main beam comes on by itself. But when the sidelights are switched on, everything works as normal.

2005 Citroen Berlingo Multispace Desire 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Disappointed with all the expense, but genuinely like my car

Faults:

Brake discs and pads needed changing within six months of first MOT. At 36000 miles I expected pads, but not discs.

Never feel that its brakes are good.

Had several brake lights fitted.

Interior cover on gear stick constantly comes off.

Now alternator has packed in and it is currently with Citroen being replaced, very expensive part for a relatively young car (not quite 4 years old).

Seats in the front a showing clear signs of wear.

General Comments:

For all of its faults, I love this car because of the space it provides in the boot and the interior capacity is excellent. I find it comfortable on long runs, and its performance is good enough for me.

2005 Citroen Berlingo 1.9 diesel from Latvia

Summary:

A great car for both work and leisure

Faults:

Before I was given the car as a company car, its gearbox had failed at under 120000 kilometers. The third gear had gone, and I'm already having a problem with third gear again.

Fuel pump failed at around 180000 kilometers.

When I put the heater on max, after a while turn signal wiring short circuits somewhere, and when I turn on the left turn signal, the brights come on as well.

Back door (this model only has a right side door) doesn't close properly and leaves a tiny gap, which makes quite a lot of wind noise at high speeds. Recently the door has started to refuse to stay open as its little cramp that is supposed to hold it open, sometimes gets stuck.

Quite a lot of rattles from various bits of the car.

General Comments:

The car is remarkably reliable, and only once it has been towed to local service station and even then not without a warning, its fuel pump had been acting funny for a while (low revs, stalling at random) and actually the car was still driven for a week before it refused to start.

It handles well, it's great for city traffic, has enough torque not to embarrass at red lights. Speed isn't great though as it struggles to go past 135 kph (~85 mph).

The seats are great, especially for long journeys, so it's very comfortable. There's loads of headroom even for me, even though I'm almost 2 meters tall, and when the drivers seat is in my driving position, there's still enough space in the back seats for a comfortable ride.

Interior is well planned out, there's a lot of storage space and with back seats folded you can get two middle sized refrigerators in the back, and I've actually done that. Once I even managed to get a corner jacuzzi bathtub in it.

2005 Citroen Berlingo Multispace 2.0 HDi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

My last car was a Berlingo, my current car is a Berlingo, my next car will be a Berlingo

Faults:

The power steering ram seal failed and was replaced as part of the 12,000 mile service.

General Comments:

This is my second Berlingo. I continue to find these vehicles very reliable.

Stowage space is excellent with pockets and 'cupboards' everywhere. Headroom is also superb. With the rear-seats folded down, I have carried a chest freezer, video cabinet and bookcase - all at the same time!

The 'modutop' option offers power points, independent rear-cabin cooling and overhead stowage lockers for the children.

A full-width rear interior locker is very useful for stowing cups, kettle, water and stove for improptu brew-ups.

The standard roof-rails can be laterally mounted in seconds for carrying canoes, wardrobes, wood etc.

Torque is superb for the 2.0 HDi option. When towing a 3/4 ton trailer tent through France, the car maintained a 70-80mph average - even up steep hills.

2005 Citroen Berlingo forte 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Extremely versatile and comfortable

Faults:

Nothing wrong (yet) less than 4000 miles. Had some scraping noise from both front electric windows, which comes and goes. Slight squeaking from brakes at low speeds.

General Comments:

Very nimble car despite its small engine and bulk. Can be unnerving cornering over 35 M.P.H., because of body roll. It's a fantastic car though if you have children and dogs, the boot space is huge. Drop the back seats and it can swallow fridge freezers, beds etc. It's also the car of choice on a lads night out, because of the ease of getting in and out when drunk! And most importantly the comfort this car provides for its passengers.
